Us kiwis know of the famous emperor penguin who turned up on a beach just north of Wellington 2mnths ago.Has anyone else heard of the big fellow ? well he is sailing out of Wellington this morning on a research ship heading back to the sub-antartic. Whilst in N.Z. he dined on fine fare salmon, squid milkshakes etc.... living the high life of penguin society lol . Im personally happy to see the feathered friend being returned to his natural habbitat yay Lets hope he doesnt get eaten upon arrival to the sub antartic.Just curious what other people think on this majestic creature finally going home. peace and

He only got as far as NZ? I heard about it on Canadian TV, I guess I thought he came a little farther! Geography is my 2nd worst subject, but not THAT bad, really! LOVED the movie March of the Penguins.

Yes I too loved march of the penguins Wonder if thats what was going on inside his head ? lol

I know that you can follow Happy feet's gps progress via Wellington Zoo's website not sure if I'll get in trouble for posting it but it is www.wellington zoo.co.nz I intend to log on in next few days to see whats happening.However the research vessel only just left Wellington Harbour last evening and is stopping off in the Malborough Sounds before sailing south towards the sub-antartic islands to drop happy feet off then continue their research trip.just to note Happy feet's stay in N.Z. cost the country N.Z.$85 grand for his 2mnth stay Sure is alot of money for one fat hapy penguin

Yes I do remember him. He was filling up on sand when they found him. Bless his heart. I love penguins. I watched the movie "Happy Feet" and saw the documentary "March of the Penguins" They are so cute.....since I have gotten older I even waddle like them...LOL

The real story was that he was found and reported to our conservation department.they decided to leave him alone in the hopes that he would just return to the ocean and swim away.Was'nt untill nearly 5days later that DOC sought advice after people began complaining to the media that he was ill and eating sand and sticks to try to cool down.Happy Feet had a total of 5 emergency stomach operations to remove the sand and sticks.our climate was too warm for him to even swim in an ice pool that was untill we had a wicked antartic storm blow in.It snowed in most places thats when he went swimming and sunning other than that he was kept in a dark refridgerated cool room. Still a lovely heartwarming story to share
