i am in need of some help here. i'm trying to come up with some creative names for some baby kittens that i have. well, 4 to be exact. usually i wouldn't bother naming them cuz once they are given away, the owners will give them whatever name they want to.

but this time is different. i lost three of my fav cats in the past five weeks, so i made the decision that i was keeping two of these babies. now that i need to be creative, i'm hitting a road block.

i will attach some pics of the 4 baby kittens. i am keeping the two "cream-colored" ones, both males btw. and the two gray ones are females. ANY ideas for names would be greatly appreciated!!! and i can let you know which names i end up going with. so thank you to everyone for your assistance and creativeness!!!

I'd see how they behave first as I always end up with "nicknames" even though my cats have names. Things that "happen" with them and stick help me. My one cat I had 25-30 years ago, I wanted to name him "Rupert" but my DH and I and he were all walking and my DH claimed I'd named him "Rufus" so, Rufus he stayed!

My male cat now, "Calvin Klein" was named by the vet's office techs. They named the entire family after famous designers; I could have chosen "Ralph" but. . . LOL But I ended up keeping the name because I live in Maryland and I got him the same week Cal Rypken of the Baltimore Orioles retired. That helps me remember how old he was.

My female cat I named after my great grandmother whose life/self I admired (she died 10 years before I was born so I never actually knew her).

If you catch yourself calling them by affectionate little names, you could use the initials for their "actual" name; SP being "sweet pea" or "sweety pie" or whatever. "Hay" might be a nice name, short for "Hey You!"

My immediate thought was also fashion designers. There are so many good names to choose from - somehow they all seem perfect for cats:

Vera Wang - I like the name Vera for a cat!
Carolina Herrara
Liz Claiborne
Donna Karan
Nicole Miller
Anne Klein
Coco Chanel
Nina Ricci
Oleg Cassini
Geoffrey Beene
Cole Haan
Oscar de la Renta
Calvin Klein
Ralph Lauren
Perry Ellis - good cat name!
Donatella Versace
Georgio Armani
Atienne Aigner - sounds more like a poodle!
Karl Lagerfield
Hugo Boss
Pierre Balmain
Pierre Cardin
Christian Dior
Yves Saint Laurent
Louis Vuitton
Alfred Sung

How about Isaac Magrahi???

PERFECT: Yohji Yamamoto and Kansai Yamamoto

I'm sure there are hundreds more!!

One of the funniest Chinese pug names I've ever heard was Pugnaciously Divine! Another was Bootie Fabulous!

I think Butch and Sundance (after Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) because I always thought Robert Redford and Paul Newman made such a good team.

The girls (I know you're not keeping them, but it's still fun to think of the names) could be Lucy and Ethel . I think my brain will be thinking of names all night - what fun! So then the boys could be Fred and Ricky.

thanks to you all who have responded! some great ideas in there. keep 'em coming, please!

if it helps any, here are the names of the cats i have right now (all adult ones) - Snickers, Rusty, Stella, Gray Paw, and Linus [the ones i lost recently were Coco, Stripes, Al, and Charlie]

-> gonna make a few comments here about above mentioned names:

1. already have an adult male orange and white cat named Rusty!!
2. most of my cats usually get nicknames as they grow older (like 'big kitty', 'motor mouth', 'furr ball', 'momma', miss or mr. in front of their name, 'my friendly pest'...)
3. i have an uncle that we call "Butch", so that is out of the pic - sorry
4. and my cat named Charlie went missing two weeks ago, so i'm still hoping he will come back soon!!
5. i tend to use a single word for their names

Not a native Marylander, though. Cal's last name is Ripken.

My pug, Jimbo, came from a rescue pre-labeled - I would have never chosen the name Jimbo for him. That being said though, Jimbo answers to a variety of nicknames:

#1 being "Bo" but also

Bo Diddley
Bocephus
Mr. Bo
James Beauregard
da Bo-man
Big Bo
Mama's Bo

Queen ~ one of my furbabies is named Seymour Beauregard, lol. All of them except 2 have first and middle names. They are my only children, so I treat them that way.

I don't think the dog whisperer guy likes that idea of treating them like children, what does he know? lol

thanks guys! some great ideas being put out there!

my dad called one of the gray female kittens 'Scooter' cuz when he and my mom would go see them, the kitten would keep moving away from my dad. my mom liked that so she wants to keep that name for it.

and i got two names from you guys that i'm going to use! the other gray kitten (formerly called 'the runt') will be Lucy. and one of the cream ones will be Leo - i like that name. so i'm just looking for one more name for the other male cream-colored kitten.

Clem (Clement). These are pope names, but Leo is also my favorite uncle's name, and Clement was my grade school, and Clem is just cute, isn't it? I think Leo and Clem has a nice ring to it.

Plus a friend of mine had 2 girl ginger kittens in the mid 90's, and she called them Thelma and Louise - I cut out pics from People magazine of Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon & the movie and made them a laminated placemat for their food & water dishes.
