I agree to some extent with the above. Our backgrounds and social and personal trajectories have quite an impact on how we interpret words and create meaning.
At the same time, there are enough commonalities in the human experience to make communication possible and not bound to become a failure every time a verbal interaction occurs between two or more people. I have always been fascinated by language, the meaning of words and the (almost) infinitesimal possibilities of playing with and manipulating it. Maybe this is why I love reading and sometimes writing so much. It reminds me I should probably take up writing again: I've found it also very helpful in a therapeutic sense. I think essentially language is one of the features that distinguishes us as human beings and we understand the world through it. In this way, it's endlessly fascinating and the imagination loves engaging with it. Thanks for posting this, TheByzantine. I love thinking about statements like the above. |
