I dip in and out of it - it is a good way for me to keep up with long distance friends. I do find it incredible how many friends some people have - 100's!

Bit of both really.

I block people on a regular basis so I don't have their crap coming up on my news feed.

I like it because I can keep in touch with the few I do care about.

I too share a love hate relationship with it lol. But I find it more useful than not, despite all the annoyance it evokes. It helps me keep up with people who I actually do care about, yet it also is a perfect provider of drama and like you said - a popularity contest. Plus there are the people who spam the wall with annoying pointless crap.

I am with you guys, at the moment I hate it and appear offline and go into it every so often but remain offline. I deleted a load of people my friends list only ever gets to 150 and that's it. I know people who have 300-500 friends which is bull@@@@ as no-one knows that many people daily.

I keep in contact with family who live in Canada. My Mum has an account too and she keeps in contact with people who she met through doing her family tree

I think I am the only person left in the world who doesn't do this or even know what it is. But I find the fact that that makes me an outsider everywhere annoying. I miss parties, etc b/c I am not on facebook so I don't get invited-rats

I hate Facebook, I only joined to keep in contact with people I met while overseas, because they didn't want to write letters. But because I don't see people very often, I am always on there, hidden, but always on there. It usually just sits as an open tab on my browser, and I occasionally check for notifications, really just hoping someone will talk to me. I tried to deactivate my account recently, but I accidentally took one of my friends phones and could only tell him on Facebook, so I had to go back on there. My deactivation lasted 5 days.

I actually like facebook, I get to keep in contact with my family (mainly cousins) who are far away, or I don't see often. I also use it to stay in contact with my friends who graduated and are going far away for school. Many of my groups at school have a group and it is really really easy to contact everyone that way (because most of them don't read their emails ). I also love how easy it is to share photos And I do like playing the stupid little games when I am bored I do however understand a lot of peoples hatred toward it...

I didn't vote because I can't say that I hate it as it is surely useful and helpful for many. But I have no desire whatsoever to do facebook myself. Email is just fine.

I don't know. Sometimes I hate it and sometimes I love it. I like it for the fact that it makes it easier to stay in contact with people and you don't have to necessarily pick up a phone to contact them. That can sometimes be a hassle or seem odd depending on the relationship. I hate it because I see that most people have more of a life than I do! Which in turn depresses me.

I love facebook for connecting with family and long distance friends, I don't have a lot of friends on there and I purposely keep it that way, if I don't communicate with them once in a while I delate them.

I really enjoy facebook. My family uses it as a way of keeping in touch on a day to day basis and just having fun with each other since we are spread throughout the country. I've been reunited with many old friends and it has been a joy to get to know them again. I don't tend to interact with people who are petty or rude, so there have been absolutely no problems with it.
Thanks for this!

I think its serves the purpose for family members who live away from each other. I voted for hating it because I don't think its used mainly for that purpose. I also think its sad the way kids who aren't 13 have very inappropriate pictures of themselves and use it to flaunt their bodies. I've seen girls under 13 taking underwear shots of themselves with their cameras by posing in front of a mirror or just cleavage shots by aiming the camera down from above. I would also like to know why their parents don't realize what their kids are doing. There's also a great deal of cyber bullying and it does NOTHING to report it.

well said lynn.

I have seen f/book destroy friends in my country.

I have awoken to the sound of destruction of a room (glass and things smashing), just cause something appeared on f/book. I enter and say 'whats up' they say 'ohhh so and so said this about me; and so and so and so and so said this about me and so and so'. I stand there dumb founded. Thats my f/book experiences, I can see the benefits, but the destuction is worse than the benefits in my book.

F/Book is like anything else, its a tool like a spanner to remove a wheel of a car to fix the wheel. Or its a weapon, I have seen the weapon side so far, I have not seen any great benefits yet that justify the pain that friends of mine have suffered so far.

I Do Not Use It Gladly.

P.S...one thing out of F/Book so far is SKYPE (i know skype is a download on its own but f/book promotes it), i guess thats OK.

I love Facebook! In Moderation, that is. I believe it can over-take ones' life to a point of addiction, and sometimes can get in the way of one actually LIVING their own life. I still love FB, because I've learned how to keep my use of it to a very moderate level.

I don't see an option there for "neither" so I'm adding it manually. If FB affects your self esteem one way or the other then you are doing something wrong. To me FB is simply an effective means to keep up w/ friends in far away places and occasionally participate in a discussion thread. I log in about once a month.
My 2 cents FWIW...
