About a month ago I applied for a volunteer position to sit on the board of directors of a consumer run courier company. I finally managed to connect with the board chair and had my interview yesterday.
It went really well, and it sounds like a really great opportunity. I'm really interested in social enterprise, and this would be an opportunity to get some hands on experience with one. It would let me use my technical accounting skills while I'm still job hunting. For once it would be a volunteer activity that I could put on my resume, since it's not obvious from the company name, that it's a consumer run company. And finally any time spent volunteering I can uses as continuing ed and professional development credits to maintain my accounting designation. My chat with the board chair went really well. She said she was recommending me for appointment, and was also going to recommend that I come in as treasurer, as thier current treasurer is stepping down. I'll find out definitively by the end of next week. I'm really excited about the opportunity. splitimage |
