This article is about grit:
Grit

That's what warthogs have: grit.

Psychologists have begun to study 'grit' - perseverance and sustained interest in long-term goals. Not surprisingly, grit tends to be associated with resilience and the ability to keep going in the face of difficulties. Angela Duckworth has found that winners of tough competitive events like the National Spelling Bee were 'grittier' competitors (Duckworth, et al., 2010). They chose the boring, tough strategies (working alone with flashcards and studying and memorizing alone) rather than the easier fun ones (being quizzed by others or reading). And taking that tougher road paid off long term - especially when the going got tough. It wasn't the study strategy that helped them win, it was the gritty personality that explained the relationship between strategy and performance. http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/...s-and-gazelles
I know about grit. Trying to survive the times when all I knew was confusion, disappointment, self-hatred and intense anger may not be the kind of grit the author is talking about, but it kept me alive.

After reading the article, I wonder if I had enough.

grit is a good thing. i think everyone has it to a certain degree...some much more than others...for me what ruins grit is when i rely on it. consciously. if i just go into a situation & chug my way thru without thinking...do what i do...react on instinct etc...then i know i will be fine..eventually...it's when i try to out-think myself that i screw up. my gut instincts are good...i need to relax & trust them.

grit is good...survivors have it regardless of if they want it or not i feel. otherwise we would not be survivors.we may not be surviving well but still we are here. grit got us thru what ever hell we were in.

persoanlly if you look at me you would so think warthog. i am stocky, solid, & strong. there isn't anything graceful about me. i like to feel strong. it equals safe. fast wouldn't do it for me..nor graceful. gritty can save you in a fight...it keeps you fighting.

i am proud to be a warthog.

I am with you stumpy, Call me a warthog all you want! I was discussing that with a friend the other day. When kids were little and I was struggling to get by I seemed to be much more creative, lots of times making something out of nothing. There was a feeling of accomplishment. I had the grit to survive I knew how to build a fire I didn't just turn on the thermostat! I saw around me some people that would have been totally lost if the power had gone out. Not I, I had grit!

I would classify myself as a warthog with grit, even though I don't look stocky...I'm strong mentally and physically. After the extreme marriage disappointment, I decided I wasn't going to let them win. I also deterred 2 men who broke into my house. I'm resilient and a survivor.
