I went to the doctor today to see when he was going to schedule my surgery thinking I was going to have to have surgery because of all that I read on the 'net. But GREAT news...no surgery. He said because of where the necrosis is it isn't hurting anything being there and if it was up near the kneecap he would be doing surgery but since it isn't he is going to leave it alone. I do need to stop using my crutches and start weight bearing as tolerated and eventually stop using my brace. He also kinda laughed when I asked when I could start running again so I guess my days of running are over. He said walking and ideally swimming would be the best but I can't afford the gym that has a pool. So walking it is. He did say I needed to watch for a stress fracture though because of where the necrosis is it could cause one so he said if all of a sudden my leg starts to hurt like crazy get my body in to see him and then stay off of it. So at least no surgery.

glad to hear that surgery is not needed! you MUST be very relieved. i do a lot of walking. as noted previously, i have also taken up cycling. is cycling on your MD's acceptable things to do list? a new bike can cost as little as $100 and it's great exercise.
Thanks for this!

Walking and swimming are the two most recommended activities for me also split. Are there any community pools that give times alotted to do laps for a small fee?
Thanks for this!

The only community pool is at the senior activity center but you have to be 50 to join and it is only for people that age or older they are very strict about that. So unless all of a sudden I become rich I won't be swimming.

hey, jbug - have you approached the manager of the community pool and requested that an exception be made for you considering your health and financial issues. maybe you can exchange some pool time for some volunteer work there? exceptions to rules are made all of the time. it cannot hurt to ask.

Glad to hear surgery isn't needed. I hope you can find a place to swim, too!
