i want to start a beginners adult class just as a hobbie because i haven't danced in 9 years and would love to do it again.

Absolutely not!

I restarted ballet again this year at age 20, almost 21 and I was really out of shape and everything.

Just go in looking to have a good time. Try not to judge yourself or compare yourself to others and smile! Stretch a lot because it will help you.

If you ever want to talk, just PM me
Thanks for this!

If you enjoy it, go for it. As SingDanceRule mentions about stretching and going slow to ease back in. Do what brings you joy.

Omg. Only 19 and too old? Noooo . Dance your heart out. You are never too old or too heavy to do ANYTHING . And i might add that you are young and pretty fit. :-)
Thanks for this!

HELL NO!

YOU GO GIRL. & don't you let anyone tell you otherwise. if it is something you want to try then do it. you will never know if you don't like it if you don't try it...

you are much braver than i am...i can not dance to save my life...nor bend...but if i could i would take my fat little body & i would be proud to go with you.
i wear shorts. not short shorts but shorts (chino). & people ask me how can you do that? because you are heavy...my response is...i am hot. i am not wearing them to please you. i do not care what you think. i care that it is hot out & i like shorts & i want to be somewhat cooler.

i can not please everyone...nor do i try. i try to please me...to keep me happy..because then if i am happy & at peace then it will flow over to my other relationships.

so go..be a ballet rock star. be happy, be proud. be at peace.
Thanks for this!

Hello, TheQuietOnexx! I've never been a part of the ballet world, but I've seen some noticeably graceful "overweight" dancers in other genres. Go for it!

I did it in my early 30's I think? it was great. We even performed at the spring recital, THAT was the coolest! we did some ballet-ish folk dance thing. I did NOT invite my friends and family! I had never taken any dance classes but loved the book The Ballet Slippers? about the 3 adopted sisters, made into a movie, SO GOOD!

hey, thequietonexx - i am a huge dance afficionado! i volunteer as an usher to see as much as i can. once i was even asked to participate in a piece by the choreographer! it was a hoot! as far as you taking ballet classes - GO FOR IT!!

the house manager where i volunteer is also a dancer and she is overweight. a year or so ago, they let her choreograph and perform a piece entitled dance for fat girls (or something like that). the audience loved it. and, attendance was very good.

ballet is great! live your dream and do it!!

Go for it, thequietonexx. I am way older than you. Nonetheless, I have been doing the wallflower shuffle again. Because of my age, there is more inertia now.

Go for it! Ballet is a good overall conditioner and it will make you feel good! Plus who doesn't look adorable in those little ballet slippers???
