Hey guys, I'm looking for some Volunteer work and I just can't seem to find any!

I'm in Canada (Toronto), so if anyone knows anything specific, send me a link. Otherwise, just ideas are good!

I like animals, but I'm not so much of an animal shelter person. I like working with people, specificly youth. I'm looking for something working with kids and youth or really anyone. I've looked at the library, and they have tutoring I can do, but I suck at math, science, and don't speak French, and I have a learning disability that severely affects my reading and writing skills, so I COULD do English, but I don't know if I'd be any good at it. I'm a history, theology, psychology, anthropology, arts person, and they don't have categories for that! I'm smart, I know that, I just can't spell or do math!

I like theater, and I'm technically a theater student (part time now because of MI), but I'm working through social phobia and feel that I won't be able to do theater without being judged or messing up and ruining it for everyone. I can do arts and crafts, and I'd like to do that too. I can do a lot of 'out there' crafts, and am learning leather work, chain mail, and carving (specifically bone carving), but I also love traditional girl guide crafts.

I would like to do some work with homeless youth, or work with troubled youth, or even just work with youth who are in after school care. I can really relate to people either in middle school or high school, and I know I'm good with elementary school age.

*sigh* I just don't know anymore. And I'm also worried about my dependability, because I am struggling with I guess it's agoraphobia and there are days I can't leave my house, or I'm too anxious to do anything, or I'm really depressed and can't function or I am really manic and scare people, or dissociative and miss a lot of things people say. I don't even know if I can, but I want to, and have wanted to for a while...

How about checking with schools & senior centers to see which animal groups need volunteers to bring pets in to visit? You'd bring someone else's gentle, already trained animal, used to these visits. Owners offer have more than one therapy animal but not enough time to accompany them all around o visit.

Some of the most enjoyable times for me is taking the pets into schools. Children become comfortable practicing their reading skills by reading to these patient listeners.

Sound interesting? It's a really good place to break in.

Roadie has a great idea. I was going to suggest that perhaps a local senior citizens home might want you to lead a little arts and crafts seminar. My grandmother's retirement home does a few things like that on occasion. They seem to really enjoy it (my grandmother included, which, bless her heart, says something :P).

If you go to charityvillage.com you can search for organizations looking for volunteers in your area, by plugging in your postal code. They have both jobs and volunteer positions listed.
