The Six Habits of Highly Emphatic People is an RSA Event presented by Roman Krznaric, a cultural historian. Krznaric's views are a contrast from the many who espouse knowing thyself rather than going outside of yourself to learn about others and develop greater empathy. If you have some time, you might enjoy the video presentation as I did.

Wow, another interesting thread di meliora. I had my husband watch the other two you posted today, he was feeling down and it made a differnce in his thinking pattern today, so again I thank you for those as well.

One of the comments that I address a lot is "Why do you care so much?" And it always left me with a wonder myself, because I do care and often wonder why others don't and are critical of me because I do. What I do for my own business has afforded me to experience all different kinds of people in their own customs and family atmospheres. And as the years passed I had realized that even though I was not rich in what I did, I had learned a lot about people. Also, anyone that worked with me also learned a lot as well, however some people could not understand how I was able to allow certain things to just not bother me. And two women I can clearly remember were actually so upset and were very adamant about the fact that they could never have the patience to do what I do.

I definitely agree with what is being said in this informative video, I always could not understand how so many people didn't even want to bother learning from other people and thinking about stepping outside their own little worlds.

Maybe it is worth investing in a newer cell phone that would allow me to click on this link when I am asked that question and picked on with the statement "You care too much".

The one thing that is not discussed in this video is that while empathy is good to have and can bring much knowledge. There is a risk with it because while this speach is discussing the positive aspects the effort to empathize with others can result in hurt as well. And in today's world there is more effort to stand back and say, not going to get involved, too risky or what is the point.

When I listen to this and then listen to the divided brain, therein lies the reason that is discussed in the end. We are hurting ourselves because we are straying away from empathizing without realizing it.

Do you see that too di meliora? Your threads today has really made me think. I have felt what is discussed in the divided brain and it explains so well what I have been struggling against too. So just listening to that helped me see the reality of what I have been seeing alot as well as feeling too we are constricting too much, not healthy I agree.

Thanks,
Open Eyes

Great video, I would love to volunteer for a study like those in the film. I have often wondered what it would be like to be in another persons shoes, not just by listening but to actually be there. I enjoyed his ideas immensely.
