My Mom has been sick for about a week with flu like symptoms. She came home from work on Thurs and has been pretty much in bed since then. I suspect she overdosed on sleeping pills in a bid to get some rest. She tried to drive today, I couldn't get her not to. Needless to say, my husband had to fetch her. I am now at hospital ER waiting to be seen by a doctor. My mom is out for the count. She is dehydrated as she hasn't eaten or had anything to drink for a while. I'm hoping she'll be admitted as I don't think she's safe on her own.

 - sorry to hear your mom is sick and hopefully the hospital will admit her until she's stronger. Has she ever taken more sleeping pills before? If so, then her doctor should know -- too many could be dangerous. This must be so stressful and I pray she'll have a speedy recovery.

My Mom was admitted to hospital. She is very very sick. They found bronchitis on her chest x-ray but more alarmingly, they also found a mass on her right lung which they showed me on the x-ray. She is going for a CT scan tomorrow to determine just what that mass is. I'm on auto pilot right now.
PS. She didn't accidentally overdose as I had suspected. She is so weak and out of it due to infection. |

I have just come from the hospital. Mom is sitting up in bed, communicating quite normally and is in fact quite chipper. She is comfortable in a 3 bed ward with another lady that she has made friends with. She is still very flushed but looks herself. Now, as far as the doctors are concerned, well they are completely elusive. It's like pulling hens teeth to try and get some information. I know that they did some more tests / scans today and apparently found another mass somewhere near her collar bone and will be taking a biopsy tomorrow. I will get in touch with our GP who has been to see her but it not her physician at this point. I don't know what the future holds in terms of these masses and what they mean. Mom hasn't been well for a long time and this could explain her permanent malaise. But right now, as of this moment, I feel a little less tense. It was just good to see her more like her normal self again. I am in phone contact with hubby (who is quite sick himself and away for 7 days).

Sabrina I know how difficult it is when our mom ends up being sick & the sick makes them not able to take care of themselves the way we know they need to be doing. Glad she got through the sleeping pill OD ok.....but I'm sure your concerns about the masses are quite great. Don't know how the Dr's are where you live.....but don't let them not keep you in on what's going on like they did with my mother. My mom was making very poor judgments at that point in her life & not being part of the knowledge & decision making process caused the most horrible problems I could have ever imagined. Don't let them push you around or ignore your need to be a part of any of the medical information about what's going on with her. I was an only child & my father had died years before. My heart is really feeling for you & all you are dealing with right now. I know the dreams & the not being able to sleep.....if you need something to help you sleep, make sure you get it for your own health at times like this is very important. Eating healthy food is important also.....but sure you aren't even really feeling like eating. Keeping you & your mom in my thoughts & prayers & sending you lots of caring 's

Just found this thread. Sending healing thoughts to your mom.
Please take care of yourself too. Try to rest as much as you can while she is inpatient because she may need you more when she goes home. If you keep missing the doctors you can ask her nurse to put a note on the front of her chart telling the doctor that you would like to speak to him/her.
