And this happens when I tell the nurses "be warned, I have bad veins", and they just brush me off. This was at the ER. I was supposed to get an IV, but they gave up on that pretty quickly. So all in all it took 5 nurses 2 hours and 12 sticks to finally get some blood for the bloodtests.
Awesome!! (sorry, bit big.)

Aw I'm sorry that happened to you! The veins in my elbows are hard to find, but not that hard! I hope it is a little easier for you this time.

Thanks! I'm used to being poked two or three times when I have to get my blood drawn. Sometimes the nurses are smart, take a look, and then go get someone who's better at bad veins. But this was ridiculous. And my husband always made fun of me for complaining about having to get my blood drawn. Well, he was with me this time and witnessed the whole ordeal. I don't think he'll ever say anything again.

And you know, last week I was taken to the ER by ambulance (I have been having heart attack symptoms, and they can't quite figure out what's going on), and the EMT said she's going to put an IV in, I warned her about my bad veins. She took one quick look, one short poke, and the IV was in, in a shaking, hopping ambulance. Now that's skill!!

Yikes!

I usually bruise pretty badly from needles in my veins as well. It seems as though they don't get the right one, or it's at a bad angle, because I often feel the site throbbing even after the needle is in place. It takes a while for those bruises to disappear too!

I feel for you, whenwillitend! Big hugs to you!

If you are allowed to drink water, drink plenty of it - it will help!
I was advised to do this because of the same problem you have. And on one arm, my vein is prominent, and looks deceptively easy to get, but it isn't; I always steer them to the other arm.

Thank you! They always tell me that too, but it just doesn't matter with my veins. Some say my veins are too deep, some say they're too small, others say they roll away. I guess they're a combination of all of that.
