I'm 44, grey and growing old disgracefully. How about you? Do you dye your hair? Does it make a difference to how you feel?

I'm only 22 so I don't have any grey yet, but I dye my hair constantly. In the last month I've been black, blonde and red, pure blonde, blonde with black, now I have blue hair! Eek!

I would say so pegasus - im ash blonde but i die my hair a deep warm brunette. This is my mothers natural hair colour and i was always annoyed that i didn't inherit it. I would go to a senior stylist and have them recommend the right shades for your complexion and even if you don't end up having them do it and you decide to do it yourself at least you'll have a better idea of what colour to get as theres a lot to choose from out there. If this is your first time colouring i would probably get it done professionally so that its applied evenly and your stylist will tell you depending on your hair type how often it needs to be re-done and how best to take care of the colour. All the best.

Yes, I do! I am almost 58 and I don't like grey hairs! Plus it's fun to experiment.

My hair is dark/golden blonde and I stopped coloring it about a year ago. It's just too much work, especially if you've got longer hair.

my natural hair color has always fluctuated from strawberry to ash blonde. i dyed it red for many many years but realized it was a manic thing. after stabilizing i stopped and decided to let it go natural as the grey just looked like highlights fortunately. but i color the long hair from the ears down in the back underneath purple on a regular basis. the last time i did it it made my all natural blonde on top look so dark that i highlighted it. now im thinking WTF, why not go red again? im feeling washed out and boring despite the purple. i want to be vibrant and only color can do that.

I do as well. Am 55yrs old & this year was first time I ever had it colored.
Just felt like the grey made me look tired. Keeping natural color, nothing drastic.

I am 47 and have coloured my hair so many different shades and colours ever since I was 13. It is not to hide grey but simply because I like variety and get easily bored with the same old, same old. I have even used temporary colour gels with pink, and purple to make single streaks of colour on the side or along the bang or hair line as a feature.

My hair is dark brown and I have been getting highlights for about thirty years. I am 53 y/o and am beginning to get some grey so I am going to use color for the first time.

This site offers free hair color, you just have to pay shipping. https://www.esalon.com/ I am going to try them soon.

Nope, but, if it weren't for the fear of losing my hair (I love my long thin hair :P) and the hassle, then I would dye it black, for sure. I saw an elderly woman on the bus recently with very clearly dyed white hair and it looked f**kin' awesome; it's like a middle finger up at aging, I love it.

I have been dying my hair since I was 27, when I had a grey streak in front appear overnight. It was due to going into shock. I am a natural blonde with red tints. But I dies my hair dark auburn for 12 years. I dyed it platinum for 2 and now it is natural, grey and all.

I started graying in my 20's, family trait, so it's been over 20 years now, and it made such a difference in my apprearance when I colored it. I still do as people think I look my age or younger; if I let the roots out, missing an appointment, the comments that I get about how tired or older I look, it is not worth it to me to let it go anymore. It is colored a slightly lighter dark brunette than my original natural color but, oh, what a difference!

No but the sun used to color my hair...or bleach it I guess would be a better way to put it. A couple of summers I spent so much time in the sun that I was almost blonde. I regret spending that much time in the sun now.
I have some grey in my hair now... natural highlights

Pegs, I'm 58 and a natural red head. Never was a flaming bright RED, more auburn. However, if I spend any time in the sun it bleaches to almost blonde. Many people thing I'm a natural strwaberry blonde! The grey started to really show when I was in my early 40s. I started to dye it then because I hated the grey. I've continued to dye it as more and more grey came in. I felt washed out looking because it was a mix of red, auburn, blonde and grey. It made my face look grey. Plus I found a color that matched the strwberry blonde perfectly so I had a uniform color all over my head.

I haven't dyed it in several months and I'm considering not coloring it any more. I've earned every last one of those grey hairs. I've begun to consider them a badge of honor. Of course then I may look in the mirror one day and decide to dye it again!

To those of you who use different colors, I wish I had the courage to do that. There's a part of me that would like to experiment with some different colors, but am afraid to because a) I don't want to look like I'm trying to recapture my youth and b) it would not go over well where I work.

I have always experimented with different colours since my youth so I guess that helped me discover early what tones flatter me more than others and since I was younger then, it was more the norm to be a little experimental with hair colours. Since then, I know that in summer, when my skin is darker, a darker tone of hair can look more flattering. When the winter comes and my skin gets lighter, the blonder tones make me look younger. Dark hair with lighter skin tones looks a little harsher for me. Red is a natural highlight in my own hair, although since I am mostly a medium to dark brunette, the red doesn't show until I lighten my hair some. The auburns are nicer on me than the dramatic reds. I had two toned hair recently where the top was platinum blonde and the bottom was a dark brown. It was nice on me, but because my hair was thinning, they feared that the bleaching of my naturally dark roots would be chemically hard on my hair. It would be better for me to wait until I have totally grey hair and then go blonde as a colour.

I don't have a lot of hair on the top of my head. It's mostly gray. I don't know what good dyeing it would be as I have a lot of chest hair which is very . . . gray. What I wanna know is . . . why don't I have any gray hair on my back?

Cool question, guy. hair follicles and growth patterns are so peculiar sometimes and often the only answer to give is genetics.

Box colors are too harsh on my scalp, and don't have enough $$ for salons---so I'm thinking of trying hennas.

Apparently, if you use body-grade, 100% henna, and indigo (in varying proportions), you can achieve an awfully nice result, even on grey hair. Plus, it's much healthier for the scalp.

Will keep you posted how it goes.

of COURSE I dye my hair. I'm 63 for God's sakes. LOL But I color it the same color it naturally is -- I just cover up the gray.

I remember growing up, I was into being the REAL you.....my grandmother used to color her hair.....then my mother colored her hair because her mother colored her hair. I used to give them a really bad time about not being their natural self & covering up their real true self with stupid FAKE color.

Then to my surprise, my grandmother ended up becoming allergic to fingernail polish & the die from the hair coloring (she did her own, so it wasn't the strong salon ones). As nature would have it, she had to stop coloring her hair......she ended up with the most beautiful silver grey hair.....it was absolutely beautiful.wavey (the Italian in her I'm sure) gorgeous silver grey hair......her natural was so much more beautiful than anything she tried to cover it up with.

Obviously, my mother stopped coloring her hair also because she did everything her mother did & was also afraid to become allergic.

I still hold to my belief that natural is always more beautiful then anything you try to fake it with & still believe for myself the feelings I expressed to my grandmother & mother.....besides having allergies to so many things, I don't even want to try.....I hate wasting time putting makeup on especially when I am usually flying out of the door late as usual.....no time to put on makeup.

If I'm lucky, I will get some sleep in the night....usually end up a couple of hours before I have to go somewhere. Taking care of my dogs, making sure they have food & water....& always make sure Destiny has her meds.......I jump into the shower & blow dry my hair, throw on cloths & run out the door & drive like crazy to make up for lost time. I don't like doing anything that takes extra effort than just what is necessary to live......so obviously even if I were to not think that natural is really the way to go, I wouldn't have the time or the energy to do anything like coloring my hair anyway.....too many other more important things I would rather be doing with my time.....lol....like sitting here typing at PC.
