Hi folks,

It's summertime and it hasn't been since the cold depths of February that we held out last fund drive. I'm honored to present to you three members who need your help. They are Jen29, Sabby, and darkpurplesecrets.

Many of you know Jen29, who's been a member here since 2008 and who's been a chat leader as well. She is in a tough spot with her bills & rent, and the money will give her some much-needed breathing room so she can things in order.

And all of you also probably know sabby and darkpurplesecrets. Sabby has been an administrator here since... well, forever it seems, and darkpurplesecrets is one of our super moderators. What you may not know or realize is they are volunteers here and they receive no compensation for their daily work helping keep our community safe. In a twist of good fate, the two of them are moving in together to help with living expenses and are applying for a single grant together. The money will allow them to find Section 8 housing, defray some of the moving expenses, and go to the deposit.

Both of these two sets of members have submitted an application, which has been reviewed and approved, for a Community Connection Grant from our nonprofit, the Psych Central Community Connection.

I know these are rough economic times for many people, but I want you to seriously consider donating to this Community Fund Drive. I know that a financial contribution may not be possible, so if that's the case, please leave your prayers and thoughts privately or in this thread.

Psych Central will match dollar for dollar of every dollar donated (up to the maximum of $250; $500 total to the member). Every dollar counts, so even if you can afford just $5, please consider this request.

Donations can be made through PayPal (using your credit card or bank account) to us at:

http://psychcentral.org/donate/

Otherwise, send your check or money order (no cash, please) to:

Psych Central Community Connection
55 Pleasant St., Suite 207
Newburyport, MA 01950

Everyone who donates gets access to our exclusive Poohbah Forum, and our thanks for helping out another member in need in our community. In addition, donations are tax deductible as allowable by law, as the Psych Central Community Connection is a recognized 501(c)3 public charity.

This Community Fund Drive will run for approximately one week; donations will close on Tuesday, July 31, 2012.

As always, I thank you for your kind consideration and support.

Best,
DocJohn

Thank you for this opportunity to help others! Some I know, or feel like I know, more than others, but I like having the opportunity to make a difference in someone else's life.

Jen29, sabby, and dps, you will be in my thoughts. I trust better times are in store for you very soon

I am sorry that I cannot donate at this time as I am in another country and the rate of exchange makes it impossible for me. But I am certainly thinking of sabby, darkpurplesecrets and jen29.

The knowledge that your money helped make a difference to someone. I for one think that's worth something.

Absolutely fantastic that two of you are moving in together. All of you are in my thoughts, if my car had not chosen this week to have a fit and need a mechanic I would be blessed to help. If there was a way to extend the fund drive to Aug 4th I would be happy to help out. I hope there are many others here who can.

Hi folks,

Just a quick update... the drive is over $300 now ($600 with our matching funds), so we're more than halfway there in just a few days! Thank you so much for your generous support of these three members.

An even quicker reminder -- every $1 helps if you can afford it. I know sometimes people think, "Oh, what will my $1 or $5 do?" Well, guess what -- if everyone who thought that actually donated that amount, we'd be done already.

I understand that many people can't afford even $1, so please, if that's you, just add your kind words of encouragement and support to these members and don't feel bad. Most of us (myself included) have been in a place in our lives where we couldn't even afford that, so it's understandable.

Best,
DocJohn

Thanks so much to all of you for your kind words and thoughts.
Thanks also for those that have donated....understanding the rough times that we all face especially with money. Giving both in monetary and thoughts and prayers means the world to us and we appreciate everyone here at PC.

Times have been especially tough this past year for us. Bills have started to pile up and trying to make the minimum paymets has been a struggle. Knowing that rent will be paid for a month is a huge relief and also knowing will have some breathing room soon is also a relief.

Thanks again for all of u here and for ur continued support.

hugs,
Jen

((((((DocJohn, PC friends and family))))))

I am writing this from both sabby and I to thank you all for your generous gifts and/or thoughts during this time. You have no idea what each of you mean to us both and how much we appreciate all of you. The many thoughts and prayers that you all have sent up for us means more than each of you know and those that have given monetarily, your generosity is so appreciated and means so much.

It is hard for me to really explain what you all mean to us because whether you gave monetarily or through your thoughts and prayers, both we could not be more grateful for. It is times like this that no matter who the drive is for that we all pull together to support and uplift each other and all support whether monetary or through thoughts and prayers gives the strength to keep going and knowing that there are others pulling behind us shows the love and concern of this community and its members.

Sabby and I are so thankful for each of you. As many of you know sabby just lost her job and is applying to get her SSDI. It has really hit her hard as she has always worked and been able to do what she needed to do. But with losing her job and her health now, it has been difficult for her. She was living with her client as a home provider and when her job was lost due to her client needing more specific care, it left her homeless.

Over these past few years, she has been pretty ill and is now really unable to work like she has all her life. Many here know that she has been dealing with Fibro for a while and it is getting worse, plus other things that are affecting her health too. This makes it difficult for her to keep doing the home providing as it takes a lot of work which she was finding it harder to do now. Hopefully she will hear something about her SSDI but it sometimes takes a long while to get it.

As for myself, many of you know that I just had back surgery in May, my third major surgery in a year. I have been disabled for many years now and living in public housing. I signed up for section 8 back in 2007, about 6 weeks ago I received my section 8 voucher, in which I had 60 days to find a place or I would lose it. It is a great thing that I am so thankful for but the timing could not have fallen at a worse time. I was only 3 weeks out of surgery and was having trouble with a bleeding hematoma that just stopped about a week ago.

Sabby, stayed with me after surgery and has been a life saver as she did everything I could not do which was everything pretty much. Sabby and I became friends several years ago when I was really struggling and she reached out to me at a time that I did not know if I would or could keep going. She has been a great help to me over these years, gave me support and friendship when I was so lost I was not sure I even wanted to go on, out a long could, and has been there through each of my five surgeries these last three years.

We have found a place that we will be moving to this next week, and I was fortunate to be able to get her added to my section 8 voucher so we are moving in together, sabby is no longer homeless. With the deposit, first months rent, and the prorated rent that I had to come up with to move on the weekend so that we could have help moving as those helping us work during the week, and the moving costs, this help you all are giving us is allowing me to be able to pay it all. And along with all the prayers and thoughts of support that we both feel are uplifting and being answered.

Sabby and I cannot express to all of PC our appreciation and gratitude to you all. We both love being members of PC and being on the team keeping PC as safe as possible. PC is like our family and each of you represent a part of that family. We are here for you all and care about the members of PC more than you know. Again, we want to let you know how much this means to us and the continued support as we make this move. I hope that this helps explain a little of our situation and would appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers as we get packed and moved over this next week.

Many gentle hugs and loving thoughts to you all. Always.

sabby and dps

I echo everything that jen29 and dps said!

I love Psych Central!!! I have, every since I became a member here. I have grown to love this home, this place with never ending support and caring for other humans. I have donated in the past to these fund drives, never thinking that I would be in need of it myself.

DocJohn, you are a very wonderful and caring human being and I'm blessed to know you and to be involved with your wonderful site. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for all you offer to us and to keeping this place safe.

I want to thank each and every one of you for your heartfelt thoughts and prayers and for your contributions to this drive for dps, jen29 and myself. As dps said, I am having some difficulties that I didn't plan for. I'm not used to being in need as I've always managed to get what I needed for myself and my family. Being homeless (until now) and moneyless is really taking it's toll on me. I just keep reminding myself that God always gives us what we need. So I need to have more faith in God. I'm working on it!

Thank you (((((( dps )))))) for catching me when I fell and lifting me up to continue on each day. Our friendship is a blessing in all ways. Because of you, I will not be homeless. You have absolutely no idea how much that touches me. Bless you!

But truly, thank you all, from the bottom middle and top of my heart for everything. We are all part of a huge family, a family that I am proud to be a part of and whom I care very much about.

I guess I missed where you designate where the donation goes. I hope it ends up in the right spot. Good Luck to the recipients! Is there something wrong with me? That was a hard process, it took three tries.

IowaFarmGal....

Thank you so very much! I believe there is a general fund that all donations go into and DocJohn then matches the fund up to a certain amount of money for each drive then distributes it. I think, that if you want to let DocJohn know where you want the money to go, you can send him a pm.
Thanks for this!

Just wanted to say thank you again to all for all your thoughts, prayers, and monetary gifts. It meant so much and we could not thank you enough for all you have done. It was much appreciated and I cannot say enough how much you all mean to me (both of us) and how much I love PC. My heart is so touched by all your kind words and love shown to us all during this time.

Sabby and I moved this past weekend and are in our new place. It was a hard move but the weather was pretty nice and the rain held off except for a little drizzle here and there but nothing down pouring or anything. We are both really sore, exhausted, and trying hard to unpack boxes and get settled in. Today and tomorrow we are going back over to clean my old apartment (hopefully we can keep going and it will not take too long each day to get it done.)

Moving is stressful in and of itself and to add that neither of us were able to do a lot but did as much as possible. We know that came from your many thoughts and prayers, thank you. We were able to at least find our coffee cups for Sunday morning and our chairs were set up to shuffle to, so that was a great thing. We still have more to move as a lot of sabby's things are where she used to live but over these next few weeks we will get that done also.

We decided we do not want to move again, we are getting too old for this. And we live next door to the nursing home so we told our help that our next move would be next door. That next time all they will have to do is go through what they wanted and get rid of the rest. (Except our computers as we will be on those and they could not pry those from our hands or from coming to PC, even in the nursing home). They will not even have to pick us up, just roll us up the hill to the door and drop us off. lol

Again, thank you to all and know that we love you and care so much for all of you. We are so thankful and grateful to all PC and for your continued thoughts and prayers. We love you and just want you to know that. Hope you all had a great weekend and that you have a wonderful day and week ahead. God bless you all.

Ugh, was feeling so incompetent there for awhile trying to get the right information filled in & it kept coming back telling me I couldn't do this & had to change that......finally figured it out.....obviously pilot error on my part.

Glad that I was able to help this time with more than just well wishes...not much...but still, it feels good to not be in the red at the EOM & be able to help at least a little.....money came in at just the right time & expenses stayed lower this month.

Think it's so wonderful that you, DPS & Sabby are moving in together....what wonderful support you will be for each other....made my heart feel good to hear that.

Jen, I am so glad that we are able to have fund drives like this to help out when the going gets tough....just that little help can make so much difference.

Glad to be able to repay in like manner the help that PC provided me about 4 years ago......there is NOTHING LIKE our PC family to stick together & give support, kindness, & love to each other.

Sending you all my prayers for the future to hold a better feeling of peace & a chance to get through the rough spot that we all seem to find at one time or another in our lives.

's to you all
