My dog has a persistent yeast infection in his ears and on his chest/around his neck. Yuck! He smells like Fritos and I feel so bad for him. I have ear drops from vet. and have been bathing him in tea tree oil. Anybody have any ideas what else I can do on top of what I am doing? thanks!

Poor dog! I don't know anything about that, but here's a page which explains possible causes and treatments: http://pets.webmd.com/dogs/yeast-inf...and-prevention. Hope your dog gets better soon!

I was just about to add that very same link as the one provided above! Hopefully, that link can provide you with the information you need to help your dog.

The bathing in tea tree oil isn't believed to be an effective treatment, so I'd give that up. Your dog's doctor needs to see him now to effectively dianose and treat the condition.

Gentle hugs to you both!

I would switch his food. Check for food allergies (via trial and error). I think that would make a huge difference. I would try something grain free first.
Good luck! And don't forget, bathing a dog too often can severely irritate his skin and dry it out, even if you use tea tree oil. My (Vet) boss in Germany always said not to bathe a dog more than twice a year, unless of course they got really nasty somehow.

Okay, again, good luck.

Thanks so much for the replies! I had an appointment for him today, but the hurricane got in the way. I'm calling again tomorrow. I've been cleaning his ears daily with cleaner from my vet. I notice that when it rains, his paws get wet, I guess yeast builds up, then he spreads it elsewhere. I have been hypervigilant about drying his paws when he comes in, and it really makes a difference. Still going to the vet, tho. thanks!

That's great! Anything that helps is good, isn't it? But I"m serious about the food. Food allergies can cause yeast problems, and really all kinds of skin problems. And the best way to find out is by eliminating known allergens in the dog food. Different dogs are allergic to different things.

I hope the Vet can help you tomorrow. Or better, your doggie.

Let us know what the vet says, if you don't mind.
