Okay, so I know that the holidays can be an awful time for many people, myself included. I'll admit I can feel quite Grinchy as December approaches, but this year I want to focus on the good instead of the bad. I'm hoping that I not only find some holiday cheer, but others will, too.
Here are some things I enjoy about the holidays:
Eggnog, "Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney (I don't even like Christmas music, and this song is so incessant, but it's so catchy and jolly), spending time with people I never really get to see the rest of the year, the "clean slate" feeling of New Years, seeing children really happy and excited, people giving and forgiving, It's a Wonderful Life, pretty decorations, the pine needle smell, poinsettias, the sparkly, glittery, gold, silver, confetti mess New Years leaves, and "Auld Lang Syne" (I'm sappy and it chokes me up).
I'd love to see what everyone else enjoys about Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, etc; the religious aspect, family and friends, cute holiday traditions, good memories, anything.
Thanks for this!

I'll join the bandwagon... Yah for the holidays! Going to tone Christmas down a bit..and just "take in" the holiday spirit... And healthier food. I'm still burping from Thanksgiving.. ugh..... No pies........No cakes.... Maybe cookies.. It can be Christmas without a turkey.. Who says we have to have turkey, turkey, turkey.. Am sick of turkey.. Think we will have hot dogs with all the fixens..

heehee, as much as I am a grinch too, I have also tried to enjoy this year...I love going to the Christmas tree farm and cutting down a tree with the kids; my 11 year old son cut it down all by himself last year since I had an injury to my wrist! He is now the man of the house because of that! (he was so proud, I swear he puffed his chest!)

We also just decorated the tree here at work, and we were goofy, dancing around the tree and spinning it; one of the ladies put a big red bow on her backside and did gangham style...man. This was fun.

Thanks for the thread. You are right, it is a hard time, but finding even a teensy bit of good is helpful...

There are things I enjoy about the season, even though I posted otherwise in the "other" thread. But first, a complaint: I am speaking up for the Grinch. And Scrooge. Both characters were not very nice during their stories, until the end. If you reformed from a bad person to a good person, would you want people using your name as a negative quality? Grinching and Scrooging should be good! Helping out, giving presents, being around friends and family! So there!

I've already bought a few pins and earrings for the holidays. I enjoy this most at Halloween, but Christmas is fun for that, too. And eggnog. I don't drink, but I get the milk stuff and chug it. Not good for me, but it tastes awesome! Cookies, oh yeah! Me like cookies! And I can tolerate some of the songs, although I do get tired of it pretty fast. As winter comes, hot chocolate with marshmallows is a delightful treat! And I have to have fruitcake every year!
