I let spiders do what they want. Even the little wandering hunter types. As long as hundreds don't all hatch in a lampshade overnight.
Sorry little fellers...couldn't keep yez ALL y'know. |

Not afraid of them but I do like to keep clear of the... (insert ominous music here) dreaded black widows and brown recluses. I like the jumping spiders. They look like they're having so much fun

I used to be, but am doing much better ... Of course, I've got this crazy beautiful OMG! Where The Heck & How Big Is It Spider Dance that I do whenever I run into a web while hiking through the woods ... Really quite entertaining to witness ...

Oh, yeah! When I lived in my previous house, which was split foyer, I went downstairs carrying laundry. I stepped on something at the bottom of the stairs, big and hairy. When I turned on the hall light, it was huge..and brown! I mean as wide as my foot! I've never seen anything like this in WV, and it was what looked like a tarantula...in WV? I killed it, and that was hard for me! I still have no idea how that giant got into my house. It doesn't seem to be native to WV. Someone's pet? I don't know.
The other spider story, that really dates back to my original fear of spiders, was I was digging a hole with a spoon in my parents' yard as a preschooler, and a big mama spider crawled up with babies on her back. I ran inside screaming to my mother that a spider with "germs" crawled up to me. She wasn't very understanding, probably even hit me, which is what she always did! My fear of spiders started with that experience! When I was newly married and a new mother, we lived in a very old farm house. There were jumping spiders that came out at night. I was so fearful that they would jump into the baby's crib, I couldn't sleep! Then, when we moved to an old, but lovely house in Virginia, in our bedroom, ensconced in the upper corners was a huge spider that would build webs each night as we slept. I could actually see his eyes each night peering out of his corner. Needless to say, I couldn't sleep! I finally got rid of him with toxic spray. I've actually seen a few spiders in the small house in which I currently reside. They better not keep appearing, is all I can say! |

I will say yes. But they don't seem to bother me if they're outside, if they're in my space they definitely terrify me.

Ah...lol this is a fun one.
![]() I USED to hate anything larger than a quarter. Wolf spiders and I have a long standing relationship of utter, bitter hatred. Little buggers ("buggers" being the closest approximation of anything remotely PC friendly) are mean! Then I met my ex. She had a rose hair tarantula for a pet. So I made great strides in trying to learn to like the things. I got to a point that I'd attempt to release the things in the yard instead of squishing them (that is, of course, unless you violate the Quarter Rule, in which case...nothing personal). Then she cheated on me, and we broke up. That being said, all that tolerance I learned? Out the window. ![]()

I love spiders but I would prefer to allow such creatures to live in their natural environment than as a pet. They were meant to be the wild, not my livingroom. I love watching their webs. It is a beautiful part of nature.

With all the Black widows we had in Calif, I learned to kill first ask questions later. I have fly swatters in almost every room of the house so that it's right there when I need it.
Have only found 1 black widow in KY.....but have heard so many bitten by the brown recluse....that I dont take any chances. The spiders I really hate however are those little airy ones that you can hardly see......I am forever getting bit by them....the bite itches so bad for days......I am overly sensitive to any bug byte which is why I kill even if they are good for keeping the ply population down.

I was not scared of spiders at all, lived around the black widows growing up. Then went on vacation to Missouri and was bit by a brown recluse in a hotel we stayed at. That was the most painful insect bite I have ever had to endure, it got me right on my elbow. I was fortunate I didn't have to have skin grafts. So anymore spiders don't thrill me much!

I'm not afraid of spiders, but if it's in the house or a widow/recluse, it's going end up flat. Same thing with scorpions. Vinegaroons get tossed out, they're just ugly and smelly, so not afraid of those either.

No, spiders and their incredible spinning intrigue me. Most critters do. Mr. Venomous helped me get to know a Black Widow who has taken up residence in one of our outside book drops, but in a section not open to the public. Everyone's forgotten about her. I go over sometimes on Sundays and see whether I can convince her to move to a place I'm sure she'd like ... Mr. Venomous instructed me on herding her, etc.
I've spent quite awhile now watching her and trying to get her to relocate before someone remembers she's there. Without Mr. Venomous's knowledge to guide me, I wouldn't have taken any chances--but respect for wildlife goes a long way in replacing any lingering fear with awe.

I am happy with most spiders except recluses and widows, which won't be tolerated especially if the kids are around. I've seen first hand what they do to the body. If anything does more harm than good, they're out of here.

I hate spiders. They give me the ultimate willies. I saw one on my ceiling the other day and I made my mom come in and spray it, and when it wouldn't move, I poked it with my toy lightsaber, then we both screamed as it fell to the floor. Since my carpet is multi-colored, I had to poke around with my toy until I found it, then I couldn't even pick it up, mom had to. I saw it and I had to run into the bathroom and barf. I have nightmares about spiders. I squished one once at my old apartment and hundreds of babies popped out of the mom's butt. I thought I was going to die I was so freaked out. Here I am dancing around like a maniac squishing baby spiders. I put a load of laundry on once as well and when I was done there was a dead wolf spider on top of the wet clothes. Needless to say, I picked it off, barfed, and then washed my clothes again.
