I'm trying to get back in the habit of wearing makeup, but there are some things I haven't ever tried, so I'm going to ask a couple of questions here (and may I add, YouTube rocks! Makeup guides, art being created, dogs creating messes when their owners are gone--it's all on YouTube! ).

I'm asking these questions because my panic disorder can act up if I have problems removing makeup and polish:

Fake eyelashes: Are they easy to take off? I can't remember if it was over fake eyelashes, but I heard about a woman who put some on, and the next day, she couldn't open her eyes (I guess she slept in them?). Is that really a risk/likely to happen?

Acrylic nails: As I understand, these take several minutes to get off with acetone nail polish remover, so they're probably a no-go for me. I'm trying out some recommended Sally Hensen products instead, but I thought I'd still ask this question, just to get it answered.

Thanks!

Hi Maven, I hope I can answer your questions: False eyelashes are easy to take off, and there is no risk of your eyes being fused shut lol. The person who had that happen is probably exaggerating, or did not allow the glue to become tacky before application (therefore the glue dried her eyes closed, which is entirely avoidable lol) I have been wearing lashes for over a year now, and I love them for a special occasion or a date night with my hubby. It takes practice, and like you said, the tutorials on youtube are a godsend. The biggest tip I would give is once you have squeezed some of the glue, wait about 4-5 minutes before putting the glue on the lash itself and when you are ready to apply it to your eyelid, hold it in the position you want for about thirty seconds to a minute to make sure that it won't "float" etc. I think the result will make it worth your while. Hope this helps! Yours truly, Lightbulb7
Thanks for this!

I would say no to acrylic nails. if you gave yourself (or got) a hot oil (cream) manicurd every two weeks, you would (probably) have strong beautiful nails in a few months. grooming is a matter of maintenance over time, not of one-time work.

I have never tried false eyelashes (for fear of gluing my eyes shut...might have to try now since lightbulb7 gave some good reassurance!), nor acrylics, but I have done the manicure thing, and hankster is right, your nails do become stronger.

They make some pretty cool nail art now too that you can just put on your nails like stickers and it lasts for like 7 days, that's fun too....

Acrylic nails are awesome, but they're horrible for your natural nails! And they're expensive as well!!

I like wearing a lot of makeup. I also enjoy making up one eye with a different color shadow from the other and swept the shadow over my nose, blending the two colors slightly off center. I swing the liner up on one eye, down on the other. Most people don't notice. I paint my top lip a deep red and the bottom I paint orange. This is a wonderful dimensional effect. It works with deep pink and lavender, too. Instead of applying blush the regular way, I've drawn three angled lines and left them unblurred. I've given myself a pencil thin mustache with pencil and on Friday I like to paint a third eye on my forehead. Sometimes I have it open, other times I have it closed. I don't bother as much with my nails. I keep them short, and painted black or dark red or sometimes I paint them with thinned Elmer's glue and then dip my fingers in glitter.

Acrylic nails need to be soaked off with acetone. If you are thinking of going this route it is better to have it done professionally. As mentioned already, they are horrible to your natural nail and quite expensive. I have my nails done with a buff off gel that lasts longer than acrylic but is just as expensive.

I use fake eyelashes frequently and I've never had a problem with not being able to open up my eyes. Sometimes they can be a little difficult to remove, but more often than not, they're just fine. Uncomfortable at first (or at least for me), but easy enough to get used to.

I don't use acryllic nails either, but I know people who do and it takes a while to get them off. I think they just sound frustrating to be honest, and I'll probably never try it.

Thanks, guys! Sorry I didn't get back to you right away, but college has kept me busy (I've just screwed up big time, but it's my fault and that's another topic). I was told by somebody else that I should just polish and manicure my nails regularly, use Sally Hensen's ridge filler (I only found a 3-in-1 product that includes the ridge filler), and use a top coat, and that should help my nails strengthen. My nails drive me nuts when they get long, but I'd like to be able to grow them that way. Part of the problem is because they catch on things and break, or the layers separate (mostly on my thumbnails). I've got lots of polish, the Sally Hensen products and a daring soul , so we'll see how it goes.

One thing I'm a little nervous about is, trying to put on eyeshadow and other makeup in certain styles. Like the dramatic eye...I'm afraid I'll overdo it and look like a clown. I love to play with colors, so I'm not usually going for the "natural" look, although I like that look...I just love color, though! I'm actually looking around for a gold lipstick and a silver lipstick, preferably with glitter. I've found a couple of golds (one was a gloss, really), but not what I want...I want a yellow-gold and maybe one or two other golden shades.

I love red. Problem is, I have to be careful with reds, especially dramatic, bright reds, because I have very fair skin, and it causes makeup to look even brighter.

I'm a little nervous about going back to makeup (I quit using it years ago because of my OCD, but I'm much better now), because I go to class and people have seen me coming in all these weeks without any makeup (except for Halloween), and suddenly, here comes Maven, all rainbow-like!!!

I got some fake eyelashes. I really want to try them. What I really want is the prescription Latisse, but Medicare (and probably other insurances) won't cover it. My eye doctor gave me a prescription for it, and tried to get it filled. No luck. I asked how much it was, and they said like $121! *Sigh!*

Oh! One more thing...I got some lovely snowflake-printed polish (I think it's like a layer of printed polish, already dry, you just put them on your nails, if anyone knows what I'm talking about), and I think it's a Sally Hensen product (one of those that comes in a little box), and I'm going to wear them for winter!
