Anyone have any ideas on how to get through a school day with a broken rib? I broke my rib Friday and have to go back to school tomorrow (Monday)..... does anyone have any ideas on how to get it to not hurt that bad throughout the day? I go to high school, so you know it can be pretty rough.....

Skitty Kitty, let me start off by offering my condolences. Broken ribs HURT! I broke six ribs on my left side years ago. Hurt like bloody blue blazes.

What did the doctor tell you about how to deal with the pain and how to care for your rib? I would follow his/her directions.

Would it be possible for you to get permission to leave each class a few minutes early so you can change classes when the halls are empty?

Oh no... That sounds painful! Ouch! I've never broken a rib personally but I have friends who have. My best advice for you is to try to talk to your doctor about it. I agree with the previous poster... Try to get an excuse from him/her.

Yeah you shouldn't be moving around at all with a broken rib.

Well...I fell and hit my rib, just under my breast last year. I wouldn't say it was broken, but maybe cracked. It was very, VERY painful. It took a good 6 months to heal to the point that I didn't feel pain. I tried all sorts of things, including an abdominal binder which I purchased at Walgreens. I wrapped my chest with it. Eventually, though, I just lived with it till the pain subsided. A chest wrap may help you. I don't really know. I'm sorry you are going thru this!

I fell in the bathtub...embarrassing and painful! I didn't go to the doctor since people told me there's nothing they can do for it. I really don't know if that is true. I tried heat and ice, and binding it. Eventually, I just had to let it heal itself!

Yeah my mom is a doctor and you cant do anything for it except let it heal on its own.... you really aren't supposed to use a chest wrap....it makes you prone to pneumonia

I agree, and the chest wrap wasn't helpful! Good that you have excellent medical advice!
