I currently live in a sober living house for women recovering from addictions and mental health issues. It's run by a Catholic charity. it has its ups and downs, but last night was definitely an up.
When I showed up for dinner the side table had 5 gorgeous gingerbread houses on it. They were really nicely decorated and pretty. It turned out that an affiliated catholic elementary school had decorated the houses and donated them. Well none of the residents wanted to eat them - they were too pretty. But staff insisted we start eating at least one of the houses. We actually had a little argument over it LOL. The argument ended when one of the staff members took a knife to the roof of one of the houses and smashed it up, after which we all got gingerbread. It was really nice of the kids and I just thought the argument was kind of funny. splitimage |

The houses can look so nice, and I can understand why some would not want to mess with them but enjoy them to look at instead of eating. On the other hand, gingerbread, mm-mm-good. Ironic, something so sweet and a gift, to cause such turmoil. What a lovely holiday surprise though and that was really nice of the kids.
