Just was wondering if any of us are superstitious about the number 13? Does it brink you bad luck? If so, do you think the year 2013 will be any worse than any previous years?

Personally I am not bothered about the number. Hopefully there will be something good in store but I am not holding my breath.

I don't tend to follow those superstitions but I do get intrigued by them. I have more of an interest in where the superstitions originated from, since I majored in cultural studies and that included folk beliefs like the numbers, the belief that if a hockey player shaves during playoffs it will be bad luck for the team, wishing good luck on stage will bring bad luck, so they say "Break a leg" instead etc.

I'm really not a superstitious person. I never have been. The year 2013 doesn't mean any more (or less) than the year 2012 means. SSDD ~ same sh**, different day imo.

Actually, when I was a young girl, I recall thinking that Friday the 13th were actually good days for me. Instead of the bad luck day that it supposedly is to many. Idk!! LOL

Friday the 13th is not a superstitious day for me but it was for the Knights Templar and many Christians, which is believed where the superstition started because...

Knights Templar History - Knights Templars are charged with Heresy
King Philip IV of France (1268-1314) who was already heavily in debt to the Knights Templar requested a further loan. The Knights Templar refused his request. King Philip IV subsequently ordered the arrest of all Knight Templars in France. The order to arrest the Templars was sent out several weeks before the date possibly giving the Templars time to hide their wealth. On 11 October, two days before the arrest of many Templar Knights, it is recorded in French Masonic history that Templar ships left La Rochelle, heading to Scotland. On Friday the 13th, in October 1307, Jacques de Molay, the Grand Master of the Knights Templar, and 60 of his senior knights were arrested, tortured, and killed in Paris. They were charged with heresy and accused of homosexual acts. Admissions of guilt were extracted due to the use of torture. Pope Clement V initiated enquiries into the order and thousands of Knights Templar were arrested across Europe. Anyone found sheltering a Templar was under threat of excommunication. Much of the Templar property outside of France was transferred by the Pope to the Knights Hospitallers, and many surviving Templars were also accepted into the Hospitallers. The Medieval order of the Knights Templar become extinct in 1312 when the order is dissolved by the Council of Vienne.

My daughter, who is now a grown woman, and still an athlete, Always made number 13 her number (basketball, softball, soccer...whatever) whenever she could---I noticed and was intrigued by this, she went to school on a basketball scholarship, is on her second master's degree, has had a passion for justice all her life, especially for racial and sexual equality and has worked as a coach, social worker, ---I presumed someone had told her it was "unlucky" and, as is her nature, she decided to prove this untrue. Judging by her success, it's been lucky 13 for her. I forget where the suspicion comes from-----maybe do a search after work. Love black cats and might collect the shards of a broken mirror to make some mosaic of reflections...
