I know someone who is a phycologist.

He think's he's a master at what he does and to be honest, thinks he's above everyone else because of his knowledge of his ability to read people and know why they did something.

The problem is that he reads everything completely wrong. You may do something for a family member just to be kind and helpful and he will at some point in an argument bring up the fact that you did that to annoy him as you know he hates that person.

The fact is, you were just being helpful. You can tell him that, yet he knows best because "I'm a physcologist, I should know how people work" (in an arrogant way).

You can't really win as he honestly thinks you were trying to cause problems.

I'm sure I read a few months ago that someone phycologists can get that "condition" or whatever it's called that they get so caught up in their "ability" to read people and understand why someone did something that they read everything wrong.

Kind of like instantly saying "well he crossed his arms while talking to you - that means he was being defensive" but failing to see that it's -0 c outside and they were cold. They think they've got the right answer but without really breaking down the variables/details it's a false positive answer.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what this might be called?

This psychologist is an arrogant people controller. He obviously can't read people. I doubt he will be able to draw a large client base. The condition is called being an ***hole.
Thanks for this!

I was going to say the same thing......but just leave it at the condition being an arrogant "know it all".....which is the same thing that you all called it.

I've had a few professors who had this exact same attitude, although oddly enough the course had nothing to do with psychology or psychiatry. Anytime you asked a question or answered a question that someone else asked, the professor would agree your answer was correct but through obscure logic, it was actually done to annoy them. This would even happen if you pointed out there was a typo in the slide, the professor would quickly lose their temper and call you out because you called them out, even if you told them by e-mail or at the end of class.

I thought this professor may have an anger control problem but the DSM didn't have a category for what I thought the professor had: headupassitis or assholitis.

"Know it all", Arrogant, self-centered jerk who needs to get off his high horse before life knocks him down off of it and he realizes he's just like all the other slobs he judges....but I'm no doctor.
