I'd like to go to Iceland to see an active volcano while the northern lights danced above me.

If you had unlimited funds, where would you go and what would you do?

Can I have more than one trip?

I want to go back to Ireland. I'd like to drive around the country and see places I've only seen briefly in more detail (Burren, Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher). Would also like to see Northern Ireland.

Another trip of a lifetimne would be to Australia. I would love to travel to the cities, the Outback, Uluru (sp?). There's an Elderhostel that tours most of the country, takes about a month! I'd love to take that trip!

I'd also like to travel around the US by car. This is such a wonderful and diverse country. I've seen parts of it, but would love to see more.

the one i really long for is ..anywhere as long as there is someone to care solely for me and no steps in the hotel, pool or surrounding areas.

Now that I have said that (and I hope people will read it)…

Near Eastern Studies has been my main interest for much of the last 10 years, therefore the places I would like to travel and experience are all in that region, or more accurately in North Africa, South and Central Asia.

My dream vacation would be to travel through Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan, because those three nations are the centre of my research of the world. (I wanted to study Pakistan Studies or Middle Eastern Studies in university when I was in high school.)

It's hard to explain to someone what interests me in these three nations: the culture, the Islamic and ancient history, the landscapes, etc., as if all my major interests converge on these three countries.

I would like to see
- K2, the second tallest mountain.
- Visit the Northern Areas and the Hunza Valley
- See the Badshahi Mosque and Mazar-e Quaid
- Visit the ruins of the Indus Civilization
- Visit the Gardens of Babur
- See the remains of the Bamiyan Buddhas
- Visit the Herat Citadel (built by Alexander the Great in around 300 BC)
- Visit the Mausoleum of Queen Goharshad
- Visit Registan
- Travel to the Kyzyl Kum Desert

Or I would also really like to trek across the Sahara Desert in central Niger to visit Erg Bilma near the border with Chad. I am fascinated with deserts, especially ergs, more commonly known as 'sand seas,' and the various kinds of sand dunes that exist. Niger is a treasure trove of both Islamic culture, history, and ergs! Besides, I like to live "off the beaten path." .

M. V, I don't think your dream vacation sounds "bizarre or downright ridiculous." That's the part of the world that appeals to you. I hope one day you have the chance to travel there.

Some folks might think the places I would like to travel are ridiculous. So be it. We are all entitled to our differing interests.

I have zero energy right now so I'd like something stupid like palm trees and a hammock and lie in it in the shade, not having to shower but just pop into the sea if feeling grungy. But it can't be too warm, I couldn't stand real tropical heat. Then I want there to be a simple restaurant I can walk to with good but sort of plain food, fish and coconut and stuff. And serving drinks in the evening. Between that I will lie in my hammock and do as little as possible.

Mr. V, your dream vacation sounds wonderful, and shows what a brilliant mind you have. Those are some of the most wonderful places; I know, because I studied a lot of art history and languages, and I pay close attention to the out-of-the-way and the exotic and the under-appreciated beauties in this life.

You could be my son! So if anyone sends you disrespectful messages or mean- spirited, ignorant responses, you give me their names and I'll take care of their empty little heads.

MY idea of a dream vacation now, at this point in life, centers around drifting down the Danube on a small cruise ship and stopping periodically for a stroll through some of the great Cathedrals of Europe, and sampling the local beverages.....sigh......

....although I wouldn't mind a detour through The British Isles and a leisurely, civilized stay there for a bit, too.

I have a few.

Cruise to Alaska! I just want to be surprised with some amazing natural sights.

Hawaii. I want to see pearl Harbor and some lava flows, lava tubes. Plus those beaches!!

A couple of weeks in Daytona for speedweeks leading up to the Daytona 500. I flew in on a saturday and out on a monday to see the 500 in 08. Great race to see in person. Electric atmosphere.

A week in germany. I would love to see some of the history, then rent the fastest car I could and hit the autobahn
