As I live on my own and spend a lot of time by myself I also go online a lot.Between ocd,cfs and agoraphobia I dont have any real social/friend life.Because I'm in Australia and most people in forums and yahoo groups and so on are overseas I need to find friends locally.I live in Adelaide,South Australia.I need that friends contact(I dont mean the tv show)so I'm looking to find people online who are in a similar or a better situation to me.

Back in 2006 when OCD first struck it prevented me from doing so many things.Including going into chat rooms, forums, etc. My problems were really showing up how isolated I am.

If anyone can make some suggestions here I'm sure that I'm not the only one here on this forum who might benefit too.

Regards Chris.

Have you tried looking online to find support groups in your area? We do have other members who live in Australia, but I am horrible with geography, so I can't advise you to areas nearby with high populations = better chance of meeting others with similar issues.

Maybe you should start a post in this forum, asking who lives nearby and is willing to meet sometime for support. It's worth a shot!

Very best wishes and hugs to you.......

Hi.Thanks for your reply.

There are members here from Australia. Some forums dont allow anyone to post questions about people's whereabouts.I dont know if thats the case here or not.

I have searched and joined many forums.I still havent found anyone locally.I did post in other forums that I'm from Adelaide,Australia and asked for other Australians to reply.I think were 1 or 2 who said they were from Australia.

As for yahoo groups,I'm in an Australian group for ocd and in a facebook ocd group too.I think looking for anyone in my city might just be a waste of time.

Most forums tend to be based overseas. And fewer Australians are there.Even the local ones here I didnt get anywhere looking for people.

I better check the rulebook here.If any moderators are reading this could you please reply?

Chris.

If you just want to meet new people with a view to trying to make friends, then I'd suggest meetup.com They have sites for most major locations, and there are tons of groups that you can join, organized by interest. They're usually free or minimal cost, and since most other people who are attending are looking to meet new people they tend to be pretty welcoming of newcomers. It is not a dating site. I belong to a couple of groups, around music.

If you're looking for support groups, I'd talk to your therapist, or whatever your community metal health agency equivalent is. For example over here we have the Mood Disorders of Canada, with provincial chapters and they run all sorts of support groups. Try googling, OCD support Adelaide for example and see what pops.

Good luck.
