How I have power? I don't know! this snow is unreal, it is over my waist, over 3ft in places and I can't get to my barn, I have been digging all morning and it keeps getting deeper and making headway? Ugh.

We somehow also kept our power- and we lose it almost every weather event. It is crazy out there... digging out will be a long, cold process.
Stay warm! |

Open Eyes, good luck digging out. My dad grew up in Michigan's UP before there was electric or phones in the area. He said they used to run ropes from the house to the barn and out buildings in order to be able to get from one to the other in blizzard conditions.

Well, its so deep I can't walk through it. Our snowblower is broken, so the only thing I can do is OE power.
My grandfather had his barn attached to the house so he didn't have to go outside to get to the animals, alot of the old New England farms did that and it makes sense to me. Today they don't allow people to build that way. We built our barn as close as we could to the house, so glad I did that. I am going to take a little nap, I am exhausted, then I will go back out and have at it again. |

3 ft!! wow, and I was getting cranky about having a foot to shovel off our driveway. It's certainly some solid exercise. Take frequent breaks!

Ugh, it took me about 2 hours just to make a small path about 61/2 to 7 ft only about a foot wide, it's sooooo deep and hard because we had a mix of sleet too. I had to do my best just to get to my lower barn, couldn't get the gates open, had to climb them to get to the horse and pony I have down there. My farm was right in the hardest hit area so it is damn deep some places because of the drifts everywhere.
Where my daughter keeps her horses it took her about 2hours tredging through 4ft of snow just to get to the barn because nothing is plowed out yet. I think this is a record breaker, it is definitely a back breaker. I got alot more shoveling to do tomarrow. They say it's going to rain Monday, that's gonna be a mess. I have to see if I can climb onto the roof of my lower barn and get the snow shoveled off of it so it doesn't cave, can't have the horse down there be under that, |

Hope you and your critters are all going to be alright ... I'm sure they appreciate your extra efforts to look after them ... And, don't forget to look after yourself too ... Sounds like you've earned a big mug of hot cocoa with extra extra extra marshmallows in it.

Thanks Pfrog, I am sooooo sore this morning, I am trying to figure out what to take.
I don't know whether to take advil or aleeve. I am sore in my hands, wrists, legs, back and arms. I tried to take it slow yesterday too. I try to think as positive as I can. At least I have electricity, alot of people don't, and it was below zero last night with the wind chill. I always wonder about how the wildlife deals with these conditions, how do they even get around this snow is so deep? |

Open Eyes, I'm SOOO sorry you got blasted. I'm in Michigan, and we missed it by a few feet. LOL About 30 miles NORTH of us, they got dumped on, but we got about 3-4 inches. That's better than the 12 they were talking about!
Be careful Open Eyes, cause you can RUIN your spine doing this shoveling! That snow is SO wet! Loads of people have really screwed themselves by shoveling, so be careful and lift with your KNEES, not your back! Prayers coming your way! Hugs!!! xxx

Well, my husband got one of our snowblowers working late yesterday, so I was out until late last night clearing paths. It was not easy snowblowing either because the snow is so deep, very slow going, but better than shoveling.
Today it is supposed to be pouring rain, what a mess that is going to be. It's a mess all around my state, many people are stuck because the snow is so deep not even the big plows could push it around, so many roads are not plowed yet. Buildings are caving in because of the snow on the roofs. We are going to try to shovel off one of the small roofs today so we don't have that happen.
