Normally when we think of Hybrids, our minds conjure up an image of this

beige lumpy thing:

The Worlds Sexiest Hybrid Car

Darling of Enviromentalists, bane of car enthusiasts

Its slow, disconnected, and horribly dull to drive.

However Ferrari has an entirely different idea for a hybid

Meet LaFerrari

The Worlds Sexiest Hybrid Car

Yes now THIS is a hybrid car I can get behind.

The basic engine is monstrous V12 that revs to 9250 RPM that produces 789 Horsepower

Thats just where its starts, add on to that an electric motor that adds another 161 Horsepower to the mix.

Is it fast? 0-60 in a hair of 2 seconds is the word and a top speed of 230 so yeah it goes like a scalded dog.

LaFerrari (yes its a stupid name) essentially picks up where the F12, Enzo and F40 left off,

Price? If you have to actually ask.....
Thanks for this!

Well, I guess that rules me out. But I don't need a car that goes that fast anyway. I'm approaching the "little old lady" driving like a turtle stage!

Sorry if I offend anyone, but I just can't like the Prius's looks. And I have tried!
Thanks for this!

The 2 cars could not be more different. One is made for high mileage and the other for high speed.

I think the current Prius is the best looking one yet though that is not saying much to a lot of people. From what I've read of its successor, its looks will be much more radical with a much smaller front area. And, Toyota is also seeking to improve its driving dynamics.

I believe LaFerrari is a limited edition and is already sold out - only 499 are being built. It's a beautiful car.

It is neat looking. But it also looks like a red bat mobile. OR, it could go well with spiderman's costume.

If I win a big lotto I will buy one and come get you Tim, we can talk politics and go for a drive along a beach somewhere, and I will let you drive it.
Thanks for this!

No worries Payne, my mom in law drives her 1998 4 Runner slower than I walk, its a dreadful vehicle anyway she holds onto for sentimental reasons (she has plenty of money, she could buy a much nicer more modern crossover for hauling lawn supplies) she is of the strange old school belief that cars should never be run over 3000 RPM or they "blow up"

As for the Prius you are not alone, in that regard. Toyota styling in general is anodyne to say the least (although the new Avalon is not bad looking) They have not done a really pretty car since the Celica from the late 1990s. In fact when the Japanese want to do an attractive car they usually turn to a European or American designer( Accord Coupe for example was actually done at an American studio)

My mom has 2007 Prius, I have driven it, once, thats all it took, it felt like driving a video game, with no sense of actual motion, not to mention it was slow, and felt tippy on the corners. I am all for saving gas, but this is like being punished for it, yipes. The Ford Fusion Hybrid on the other hand looks the business and drives quite nicely, while getting 40MPG, not bad.

1. It costs a fortune to insure.

2. You have to worry about scratches and dents everywhere you go.

3. It is constantly in danger of theft.

4. Care of it is labor intensive.

I'll take my old Ford that nobody wants and I can park anywhere.
Thanks for this!

Interesting points

A few counterpoints all the same:

If you can afford the price tag, gas insurance and maintenance are not really issues

The most stolen cars in America are... Toyota Camry's and Honda Accords, so buying a plain Japanese family car is more likely to get stolen.

No argument on 3 its handmade, but a supercar is much more than appliance, care for a supercar is much like caring for a throughbred horse, expensive but worth it.

I know what you mean about your old ford, my MOL believes in keeping things until they disintegrate, she loves her 98' 4 Runner, even though it is a total POS, (out of kindness I would never tell that.

I've had my current Ford for nine years. It has never broken down. I follow the maintenance schedule and change the oil every 3k.

I have yet to replace a bulb on it.

I'm keeping it!
