My leprechaun name would be Stumpy McTavern.
 Turtleboy, my day is not going to be wicked, but hubby and I used to throw some wild Saint Paddy's Day parties back in the day! Today I'm going to have corned beef and cabbage, plus I made some real traditional soda bread, used a cast iron pot ad everything! I was surprised to find out the first time I visited Ireland that the traditional dinner uses bacon (called ham in the States) not corned beef. I just found out this week that corned beef is an Irish-American adaptation. Corned beef was cheaper than pork for the immigrants when they first arrived so they started using it instead of pork. |

I decided to do Shepherd's Pie today instead of corned beef for a change even though do love it and with soda bread today as well; absolutely in a cast iron pan! So tasty! Looking forward to it. Does anyone have any other culinary plans for today to celebrate? Slainte!
