Today, I lost over 200GB of data - music, software backups, videos, pictures, website account infos, bank info, my true diary, and God only knows what else. I'm in the process of trying to restore it with Linux, via something called TestDisk; here's hoping I can get something back.
Has anyone else had any huge data losses? Not necessarily by number, but by importance. I was so angry and upset. >.< Some really important stuff I needed. Ah well. Had that been some years ago, I'd have likely lost my temper big time! Guess I'm getting old, now. ![]() EDIT: sadly, TestDisk failed to recover the partition (data). ![]()

This is why I have an external hard drive, keep important documents on DVDs, and am about to sign up for the free cloud storage account that came with my new computer.

I had a laptop that crashed often (Dell really sucks) so over the few years I had that laptop I lost countless music and photos. Nothing too horrible but it was always a blow whenever I realized the laptop crashed and lost everything.
I also lost a big portion of a novel I was writing. Can't remember how many words but it was pretty devestating. After that, I just never got back into that writing groove.

back when i had my first computer and managed to infect it, i did lose everything- in fact i couldn't even get my operating system to work
so when i got my new computer, i had to start again... get everything i lost from somewhere- even websites i used i didon't have the addresses for that one came down with a virus too, but by then i'd learnt to back up so when i moved to yet a third computer, nothing was lost. |

Onwards2Wards, it was an external HDD, and one that had been safe for years. Linux can be dangerous beast, especially the DD command.

![]() Shattered sanity, that reminds me of when I was younger! I was forever screwing up my OS/HDDs and losing information. >.< Then one day, I started backing stuff up, and losing stuff became less common, and the older I got, the more I learned; I became very knowledgeable of what not to do. ![]()
