I am starting to recall all the sad songs that I listened to while I was really down a few years back and a few that I recently heard on the radio. I don't know how I ever got out of it, but I did. Every single song seems to be unraveling in my mind right now, from natasha bedingfield Incompatible to Gotye Someone I used to know. I don't really want these songs to stay in my head any longer.

I would just find a countering song that blows away the sad song.

I just want to forget it altogether. Like not remember at all.

Yeah, I played one the other day that caused me a lot of sadness. Its both beautiful and haunting and I know I want to hear it again but man, what strong feelings it raises.

Sometimes it is comforting to listen to sad songs to know you are not alone in your pain. Otherwise, I have my music files categorized by moods. I have Happy songs file, motivational songs file, activist file etc. These songs I listen to according to my moods or needs.

Yes, sometimes they help me to cry and get out my pain, and sometimes I don't want to hear them. I have seperate playlists on my iPod for that reason...

Yes, sad music affects my mood hugely.
I try not to listen to sad music when i am feeling depressed, or if my mood is low, as it just makes me so much worse. I have different music for different things: Classical-for when I am relaxing with a cup of tea, journalling and feeling content Dance-for when I need to do housework Pop-when I am feeling positive and cooking dinner Ballads- when i am utterly miserable and dont want to feel OK, i want to wallow.

Sometimes, I use certain songs as a way to make myself cry. It sounds weird, I know
![]() Then again, sometimes a song I really don't want to hear comes up on the radio. Usually I just change the station or switch to CD for a while if that happens, and then I try to find a song that counters it, like others also said they're doing in this thread. Smash Mouth have a lot of great upbeat songs, for instance.

Sad songs affect me very much. When my husband plays certain sad songs he know my thoughts and my paranoia's and he is a predator sometimes because of it. I ask him not to play certain CD's and he just laughs about it. I feel like a hostage some time's so I make a big deal about having a turn at playing my type of music. I choose more upbeat songs that don't have subliminal messages. music affects me when we go on long drives . My husband can be a controlling person and he can be a very giving and loving person.
