I'm posting this in a few places; hopefully here is considered okay since I post a decent amount here.

I have been sitting on a completed book for close to two years. It's a bit different and to be honest, most of the writing in it is not mine. It is a collection of "vintage" emails, many of which are over well over ten years old. I guess it can be looked upon as a Chicken Soup of the Soul - type book but it is all emails.

I've checked with a lawyer concerning possible copyright issues. He said as long as they were completely anonymous there shouldn't be an issue and to give credit when possible.

I have searched for a market for this project, but I have run in to a lot of road blocks and I've been close to giving up, and due to it being graphic-intensive, self-publishing and e-publishing it as a book is not an option without me putting down lots of my own money for a remote chance. Well, I recently read how to get publishers' attention by turning a book idea in to a successful blog, and I've decided to give it a try. So here you go. I was informed, with a book blog, that it's best to use your real name for your contact email, but I'm not quite there yet. I am using a pseudonym I have used for many purposes and it was my user name when I first started here: Carmasia.

I will be adding additional posts 5 days a week, Tues-Sat. If you check it out and see merit in it, I am asking that you share it with others. The goal is to get a high hit count in a short amount of time.

Thank you ahead of time for your support.

As far as I know, that's acceptable. But a person in charge here will have to okay it. I seem to remember some guidelines.

Congrats on the book! I have been working on one and am also struggling with whether I should try to get it published under my own name.

Darn it! I had a post almost ready to go, and I hit a button somewhere and the page changed on me, taking the post with it! Grrrr!!!

Ok, in short: Don't give up. Sometimes publishing takes a long time and going through a lot of publishers. Self-publishing, as you well know, is costly and rarely successful. However, if you feel your book is so good it will sell itself, you might have that success.

Here are a few links that might help you:

The problem with me and publishers is that the rules are changing quickly due to technology and I'm a bit "old-school" in that area. The blog idea for finding a publisher was suggested by Writer's Digest and some others and because of the project being "unusual" and graphic intensive, it seemed worth a try. I'll check out the sites....I've been doing this for a long time off and on and am already familiar with A.C. Crispin and Absolute Write is already on my favorites, but I do need to become more "up-to-date" if I hope to succeed these days.

Maranara, I completely understand. I'm trying to get my butt in gear and start writing--anything!--to make money and stop being so miserable because I don't have any. I have several ideas, but don't know how to pick just one and start. But I will.

Was going to leave you a visitors note but I'll just say it here I guess. Good luck with it and thank you for your encouragement. I've been doing this a long time as well as some off and on contract and freelance work but have never stuck with it long enough to be very successful. From what you've said here, it sounds as though you've also been around the block a few times with this stuff. If I can offer any suggestions or advice or you'd just like a second opinion, I'd be happy to help.

I'm bumping this up one more time hoping that a few more people may be willing to take a look and if you looked at the beginning, it may be time to take another look since there's a whole week of stuff on it now. I hope you like it and might be willing to forward it.

I've kinda closed up some today. I had a lot happen yesterday and I kinda reached overload. I've closed my page up...again, but I respond to PM's if anyone want to get in touch. I'll be here all day.....

In sending them to a paper book publisher, you might have better luck if you made a table of contents? Assuming you haven't. But I think a book of these would be cool, organized in a particular way. I wonder what has already been published that is similar, if anything.

I have everything....table of contents, 4 pages of where pics of references were taken from....everything. I have a complete 20 page or so book proposal with a sample chapter. I've been sending it out for over two years without any luck. Very few publishers are interested in this type of publication due to it being graphic intensive and just the fact that it's "different" a lot won't even entertain it. Also....there is nothing even close currently in publication unless it's come out in just the last few months. I did all the marketing research. There are several websites, however, set up with this type of material. These are the reasons I've resorted to setting it up as a blog. It's basically my last ditch effort to sell it.

Going by your posts so far, it looks to me you'd have a great book for humor publishers in particular. I assume you've tried companies who publish humor as well as other types of books, but if not, that looks like your target audience. There might be publishers strictly of humor, too. I typed "publishers humor" into Google and there's some good links to start with. You've probably already tried that, or something like it, but I'm trying to think of things to help.

I appreciate it, and I've focused around illustrated and gift books. There's a section or two, one about the military, that are more poignant and sentimental and due to that, places that focus strictly on humor would not be interested, but I'll take another look.

Maven, you did give me an idea, something I'll check in to as soon as I have the chance....whenever that may be.

I know I shouldn't bump this forward again, but I'm quite frustrated at he moment and I'm hoping you will help me....plus I've had a bit to drink which kinda lowered my inhibition to do it again.

If you know of any sites I can publicize it on, please pass the word. My blog is kinda different and it's been hard to find places that would be interested. It is not about anything specific which makes it hard, the same reason why I couldn't find a publisher. If you have a blog and you are willing to reblog it, I'd appreciate it, and those of you who haven't looked, please do so and pass it on to anyone who might be interested. It may not be anything special, but it means a lot to me. Thank you.

Are you listed on Technorati.com and Google Blog Search (http://blogs.google.com)? You should also Google (or Bing, whichever you prefer) "blog search engine" and you'll find more to list your site on.

Unfortunately, I don't have a blog at this time, although I hope to again, eventually.
