I didn't get much sleep last night, so I'm really tired. I wanted to catch up on the boards, but I give up. After the day I've had, I need sleep. (And I told my mom I'd do some running for her later, so I want to sleep while I can.) I went to the dentist. I didn't sleep well, because I was so anxious about it. That needle is just god-awful. He stuck me six times, because he was working on three teeth (I'm getting a bridge), and later, I felt pain in my gums, so he stuck me four more times!!! Granted, there was much less pain after that, but the whole thing was an ordeal. He pulled the root out, and that was not fun. But at least I have a temporary bridge now, so I can smile again and not look goofy. The root had broken on one of my front teeth, and the crown fell out. Because the root was broken, the crown wouldn't go in properly. My gums are sore, and I have to eat soft foods (of course, I'm craving stuff I can chew and crunch!) while it heals for four weeks! Then it's another two-hour appointment! But! It's four weeks away, so I can relax for now. He nearly drowned me, too, using one of his tools that spurts out water. Thank God for the TV in there. That helps a little bit. I can't always hear the TV, but it gives me something to focus on.

Anyone else want to share their dental woes?

After not being able to afford for my son to go to the dentist for some years, we finally got some money together and the whole thing ended up costing thousands. He needs two root canals!!

Sorry your dentist trip caused you so much anxiety.

I am so sorry to hear how it went, especially knowing how you feel about the needles. Hopefully it kept you nicely numb though. I hate that if they start and finding out the hard way that there is not enough anesthetic. Congrats on the new bridge and beautiful smile!

I'm not sure what to do after having some work done last week on some molars on one side. The swelling has gone down but I cannot chew on that side still or put any pressure on it, shooting pain, the gums still hurt, and they are sensitive to heat and cold. I need to call them back but dread what they are going to say, let alone if they have to go back in as bad as it feels, ohh, chills to think about; so I am trying to work up the courage.

Sorry you had a rough visit. I find my gums are very sore for at least a week after needles. If you need to, take some pain killers.

Last week I went for the first part of a root canal. A month ago the dentist and I had decided that my front tooth needed treatment. I went in last week and she asked if I thought we were going to be working on the right tooth???? I was then put in doubt of the tooth. Got worried. But when she drilled into the tooth lots of pus spurted out so we had the right tooth. Yay. Get to go back in two weeks to do it all again.

Well, it's a few days later. I'm not in a lot of pain, but there is some gum irritation, and anytime I drink, even from a cup, it makes me suck inward and irritates the gum further. There is a gap between the middle tooth in the bridge and the gum itself, because he pulled the root out and it needs to heal. I am getting sick of the irritation every time I take a drink (and I drink a lot, mostly diet soda). I have taken Advil, which helps, so long as I'm not drinking, causing the irritation to continue. Four weeks of soft foods. I had just bought some chocolates with toffee pieces (I think, or it's caramel and toffee inside) the day before my appointment. Now they sit there, mocking me!
