He said this snake was found on the road to his home, and the fire dept was called to come pick it up. At first I believed him, but then I looked up "giant rattlesnake" on Google, and found dozens of articles saying this is a hoax making the rounds...a "photoshopped" pic, since rattlers don't even get this big!

A rattlesnake that big would be a sight indeed.

That was mean but... If I was a fireman and got that call I'd refer the caller to the police or animal control
Are there a lot of venomous snakes there?
Rattlesnakes are supposedly fairly common near the beaches here but I've never seen one. I've seen Cottonmouths, Corals, and Copperheads though. Found a Cottonmouth on the patio of the apt I used to live in. He was sleepy though so I won that battle
Thanks for this!

It can on the Syfy Channel! They make all kinds of movies about giant, mutated and combined-animal movies! With titles like Sharktopus, Piranhaconda, Megapython vs. Gatoroid, and Arachnoquake.

Why not "hoax" the student back?
Find an outlandish photo of something. Perhaps this Jackalope

Wait a few months, say, toward the end of the school year. Then show the pic
to the student along with your made-up story. For example, you adopted this pet from the animal shelter.
Thanks for this!

I can't believe you didn't mention the mother of them all...Megashark vs. Crocosaurus.

I must admit...seeing a giant shark sailing through the air over a battleship with Steve Urkel on board was quite amusing.
Thanks for this!

I love the kid who hoaxed me. He's quite a character, and I couldn't be mad at him if I tried. He's in the 8th grade now, and since the 6th grade he has said he wants to be a herpetologist (snake specialist). He's quite brilliant and funny, living in a dysfunctional family situation with his grandmother (not parents).

Also...I enjoy the way this thread has evolved. Y'all are funny!

Seeker, I think it's great that you have the kind of relationship with this student that he feels safe playing with you.
Thanks for this!
