Just came across this while looking for local support groups, and I'm confused. I've been like this for my entire life, does that make it long-term? Yet, technically it could be curable, does it mean it's still a long-term problem? The likelihood of being completely 'normal' has already been made clear that it's unlikely. I guess I'm just confused as to what makes a "long-term" mental health illness.

I'd say its mental health problems you don't recover from...like if someone has one depressive episode in their life and get proper help/support they are much more likely to recover than someone who has them consistently over the long term.

Though I think some disorders are pretty much incurable, like PTSD though some say it is possible to overcome it and not struggle with symptoms anymore but not sure I buy it.
Thanks for this!

Long term for instance would be me. I had a breakdown in 2002 and have been inpatient way too many times. I have been diagnosed with bipolar type 1, generalized anxiety disorder, and bpd. The first two require daily medication which I will most likely have to take for the rest of my life along with therapy I am so in need of and can't seem to find in my area. I have been on disability for my mental illness since 2004 because I cannot function in society like a lot of other people.

I looked into "long-term" way too much; I now realise long-term doesn't mean permanent. I can now definitely say I'm a long-term person.

Thanks for the help, guys.

I think it covers the disorders for the most part. Things that can not be fixed by conventional methods or keep reaccuring. PTSD, schizoaffective disorder, GAD, BPD, BPD1 and 2
