Today on my bike ride, i rode over the abandon rail viaduct that has a 50 foot drop into the lake one side and a rocky waterfall the other. Plenty of people cross it every day, i noticed a girl of heavy build sat on the walled edge dressed in far to many cloths for a hot day.She had her hood up and was gazeing down the waterfall side, nobody took any notice but with me being a depressive i did. I road past on my bike and stopped a distance away an whached her, i walked over about 10minutes later slowly and said whats up baby are you feeling down, she shrugged her shoulders?? are you depressed ?/she this time spoke only to say yes. I gave her the usual dont worry so am i it tough, and told her i take meds an feel just the way she does some days. After a while i walked away and stopped a couple to see if they had a cell phone , i dont take mine if wearing shorts i have lost 2 all ready.I said 911 OR 999 in England., no one seemed to give a **** and in the end the water baliff from the lake nearby rang the cops. i didnt go back to her because if she jumped when i was speaking to her i would have jumped myself with guilt. the cops came , first a lady cop then another car with 2 male cops, the men said to me she was a regular, meaning they have dealt with her before. They got her off the wall to my releaf and i cycled on. but i couldent get it out my head nobody but me gave a f***

(((sewerrats))) - I commend you for reaching out to this lady and doing the right thing calling 911. So sorry they made you feel bad and like they didn't care. Good thing emergency personnel finally came and I hope this lady gets the right help. I would be very shaken up and upset if that happened to me so I validate how you feel. You reached out and did a caring deed.

lynn , the mental hospital is only over the road from the lake and viaduct , it is a well know spot for suicide , i was at the same hospital friday for my six month check up. The problem is they let patient,s go to the big supermarket on the site has there first time off the ward alone. Most love there first time out get some cigs or food and return to there ward,. BUT some dont and use the supermarket has a smoke screen to suicide, the hospital,s take on this is you have to trust the patient sometime. A policy that is clearly flawed through cost cutting and getting it VERY WRONG.

I agree - good for you for reaching out. All too often people are overlooked. Part of it is people not noticing, part of it is people not wanting to get involved, part of it is people being uncertain as to whether or not they have the right to get involved, and part of it is living in a day and age where it's not 'appropriate' to 'meddle' in other people's affairs. I'm glad you did what you did. Even if she is a 'regular', maybe you helped her realize she's not alone.

Wow....... that city should do something to build a safe guard of some kind to prevent patients from doing this. Its risky to let hospital patients out if they could be dangerous to themselves. I can understand how this made you shaken up. It takes courage and understanding to reach out to a desperate person.

I find it sad that they say she was a regular. As we all know depression hurts. It makes me feel good to know there are still caring people in the world like yourself.

I actually asked two girls and a boy of about 20 years old if they had a cell phone has i was worried about the lady , they looked at me like i was an alien ,and the guy said are you serious man and moved on there merry way. All they could see was a lady sat on a wall no big deal to them. But has a depressive we can see straight away a problem.

if you go in the hospital through a suicide attempt , which is not so easy now has there are more cry for help people, if your a danger to yourself your locked down, then start with carer that shadows you till you then progress to waliking about lock down on your own. they also have a big garden were they can smoke and talk with other patients till you gain trust for you first supermarket trip. Its so easy to fool staff and doctors there well hear lies the problem. If its its easy to roll heroin into cigs in the garden without being sussed then how easy must it be to get day release.I myself lied like a trooper at my once a week assessment to get out the zoo and the top shrink who had never seen me before in his life let me out and i was 3 times worse than when i went in.

I'm glad you were sensitive to the girl.....even if it doesn't make a difference....at least you know that you did your best to touch her life in a positive way.

Along those same lines....a few weeks ago after my patient assistance denied my assistance & wouldn't even appeal it because I made $1402/YEAR too much for a medication that costs me $2567/month & medicare refused to let me into the program because it wasn't open enrollment period.....everything was cast in concrete why I didn't qualify for a waiver.....no one even took medical need not financial need into consideration....the only option was that I was going to have to go through withdrawal (Pain medication) & then go back to living my life with horrible migraines.....I was angry....one place said that I had to pay all but $100 of my income before they would kick in monthly.....I got so frustrated, I commented, what's the purpose of living when I don't have any money to pay for a medication end up going through withdrawal & end up dealing with horrible migraine that makes me completely non-functional.......don't remember how long after that, but there were 3 sheriff cars in my driveway while I was on the phone looking for more possible solutions....they got the idea that I was a danger to myself because of the comment I made to the guy at the medicaid office in my major frustration & anger. They didn't do anything...but they camped out in my driveway for quite awhile after they talked with me.

It is nice to know that people do care...but sometimes they over react just a bit....guess they would rather over react than not react at all.
