I've been super bored for the past three days. All I do is clean up the house and listen to music. What are some unique ways to have fun?

I got a used sewing machine (cheap) and am teaching myself how to sew. It's not hard to use and I play around with scraps of material. I Google "denim crafts" or "repurpose jeans" for ideas. Thrift stores and garage sales frequently have used Kenmore and Singer machines.

I get out of the house so there's more "happening" to maybe catch my interest/end the boredom. I like "window shopping" in grocery stores; if you could only buy one item for yourself there, what would it be and why? Peruse the "international" aisle and wonder about what people in other countries really eat and/or pretend you are that nationality.

Just going for a walk in my neighborhood can get my mind moving and thinking up things; you notice a particular type of bird, or a rabbit/squirrel, or that house 3 looks like house 6 and that the houses were developed by pattern which you'd never noticed before and you compare the other ones to the one you live in and wonder would you like their pattern better :-) or you do a bit of looking in windows as you walk, noticing yards and landscaping and imagine being those people, living in those houses, etc.

Take the word "bored" and make an acrostic How to Write an Acrostic Poem :Poetry for Kids out of it with ideas of things to do:

Books
Origami
Ride around in the car/bus/etc. (have you ever toured your old neighborhoods?)
Edit and continue writing that story/article you started 4 months ago and then abandoned

I've decided to take up guitar lessons. I've never played an instrument before (or tried) so that should interesting. I hope it is anyway.

I am always well entertained if I have a book. In fact, I frequently neglect the things I have to do in order to read. I also love to cook so I head for the kitchen and create. My husband and I both like jigsaw puzzles. It is amazing how fast time flies when we are working on one. It is another reason to ignore my chores for long periods of time. Getting out of the house is also a good distraction. I cannot walk far so I do not go to the mall or anything but I enjoy a drive in the country or even just sitting on my porch listening to the birds. I sometimes knit while I am outside. That way my hands and mind are busy at the same time.

Dear Army Girl,
1. Do you own a guitar? Will you buy, borrow, rent or steal one?
2. Will you take private lessons, group lessons or learn it on your own?
3. Metal or nylon strings?
4. Are you willing to practice at least two hours a day? Every day? For a year?

Please keep us informed.

Wow, no expectations there, esp with # 4.
Thanks for this!

I'm going to steal Billie Joe Armstrong's guitar and I'm going to practice until my fingers bleed. I hope this works.

Dear Army Girl,
My comments were rude and abrupt. I have no excuse, other than I have been through the "I'm going to learn to play the guitar" idea. It was far more difficult than I anticipated.

I sincerely wish you the best with your efforts. Stay with it and if you can learn the I, IV and V chords you can sing and play at least 500 songs.

I don't know about unique, but here's what I do:

  • I game on the PC or sometimes the XBOX 360.
  • I chat.
  • I occasionally go out, if I'm not having a bad day.
  • I play the guitar.
  • I'll go pester my dad, see what he's up to, and if I can help.
  • I'll work on a project, like a website, a track, a guitar piece, etc.
  • Practice/study German.
  • Workout.
  • Watch YouTube videos.
  • Muck about on various sites I use, like PC!
  • Watch a film, or programme, if my OCD/anxiety isn't too bad.
  • Peruse sites like Amazon, eBay, PC World, and so on.
  • Go on webcam and harass my brother.

That's basically most of the things I do when I'm bored.

Oh, and I'm a fairly decent guitarist of over 10 years, so if you have any questions, I'm happy to help.

Haha.
I mostly just kill time online. I'd like to do other stuff, but apparently not badly enough. Because I keep ending up back where I started - on the computer.

And will you stick it out through the sore, stinging fingers stage
For me, nothing unique really... anything that will occupy my mind and give me a sense of doing something will work. Plus points if its constructive and needs to be done.

some unique ways to have fun are hanging out with friends, watching television, writing out your thoughts, going to a football game, playing golf, tennis or badminton. I wonder why I don't pursue these as often as i should. I guess I have no one to invite me on the weekends.

Recently I sometimes get bored when looking at the computer screen! I wonder why when there's access to so much information. My solution is to go outside to do some yard work ... or take a walk.
