The ones that spend the least on the actual charity:

I didn't even know anything about these charities. Normally I would think that they're generous.

That is why I do not donate to any major charities. I donate locally where I know exactly how my dollar is used.

Thanks pachyderm.

Charity is Big Business and big money goes round and round as more people are left with less recources going to local foodbanks, senior services, and the poor.
I believe our tax codes allow charitable deductions for rich people to keep more of their income and investments, loopholes that needs to be closed or a smaller cap.

Religion Institutions are another example tax exempt organizations another way to give under the guise of charity and see more money back to their own pockets.

Not all, but I am aware from personal experience. My foster parents own businesses and are on the board of their church and recieve dividend checks from equity funds!
This sickens me and I have nothing to do with these people for a very long time.

Corporations such as *****art, Target, BP, Supermarkets, Car Manufactors, and even Insurance companies play this game with television commercials. Its part of cutting cost of marketing. Listen to what they say when a part of these proceeds will go to XYZ, these are trustfunds which need to be managed at a very high cost that are tax deductable.

This is why the whole fiscal cliff was a big joke and while most people are unaware, in the midnight hours, the 2% ers are srambling to shell money around. Hiding money in off shore accounts in countries where investment money earns high interest and taxes are low. These are tax shelters.

I give to certain charities and I do not claim them for a tax reduction. Big bothers/Big sisters, St. Jude Childrens hospital, ect.
Give tangible things, knowing they will be used and not thrown away.
Spending real time with elder in patients at physical rehab center, many of them do not have families close and have no visitors.
To give without merit is joyous and would like to hear more good news and not allow all the negativity to outshine the good in the world.
