i learned about this from an interview on the Steven Colbert show. it sounds fascinating. they have online interactive study groups, and are as much like a university as it's possible to be online. i'm sure this is legit, Colbert is well known for his research and integrity.

https://www.edx.org/

maybe i'll see you there

I have seen some of these lectures, thank you for reminding me----It's really good because you can see and choose the class, the professor etc----lots to learn: A while ago I watched one on the Transcendentalists (I was reading a bio of LM Alcott at the time and realized I hadn't read that whole group in years, the lectures were very helpful)---Also started, and want to finish one on evolution that was quite good. This is something to put on my "do it once a week" (at least) list. Thanks again.

These look great. Tho Im not in US. i wish I had time and money to study I like learning even if I dont get to the end or suceed. I noticed in periods of depression I would have a thirst for quantum physics and heavy maths. Not that I can tell u much but I loved it.

Hmmm. I posted a response at 2:11 PM to this post, and now it is not here. At the time, it was post number 2. Apparently we are in the Twilight Zone. Or was the thread posted also in some other forum?

Here is the link to it:

Nothing is ever really free. Do you get credits? Are they transferable to the university you plan on attending? Are the classes relevant to the standards of a university? How do you get proof of enrollment or completion of a course?

It sounds really sketch to me.

It's because you responded to her post in either School & Study Issues forum or Poohbah forum. No, you are not going wacky.
Thanks for this!

My understanding is that these courses are solely for personal interest. The schools don't provide any college credit for them, and so the courses could not be used for transfer to another school. My son, who is very knowledgeable about these kinds of issues, is my source.

My son does say the courses are nice, though, because you get to hear lectures by folks at prestigious universities, and learning about new things is good. He encouraged me to consider taking one. He said some such programs do provide certificates for people who complete a course.

I think the situation is probably in flux now, and things such as this may change.
