My husband and I have been going south in the winter for several years now. We rent a place but now we've found a place to buy and are considering it. It is in pretty good shape - just needs some paint and new carpet.
Anyone have experience with vacation property or know someone who did?? I am excited about this prospect ... and nervous, too. We've had a good thing going and I would hate to wreck it. Thanks in advance. |

Yes I have experience with this. If you love this location so much that it is the only place you ever want to go on vacation, then buy. But a second home can be a money pit if you don't use it enough.
Renting gives you the freedom & the cash to do other things besides pay a mortgage, insurance, maintenance etc. And to try other places too. The people I know (besides me) who have done this, had in mind that they would eventually move to the other home permanently someday. Or use it as an income property. Lot's of choices to consider with a project like this. Good Luck to you as you move forward ![]()

My aunt and uncle, just recently purchased a second home, vacation property on the Cape. They are really enjoying this new opportunity and direction in life.
Hope it works out well, for you ![]() |
