I have short sight for a longtime as i remember.I can't see things much clearer which is somewhat at longer distance. But from this year i am seeing kind of few transparent lines in my eyes.It is much visible in light colors. For Example,i can see it in a white paper or in bright sun light and of course from pc screen.i searched about it and found that it is called as 'Floaters'.
I have seen TV for many hours before longtime, including playing video games with it and then continued using pc.So i thought i got this problem because i have seen pc/Tv very much and i said this to a online person i know. She said she also has short sight and she also has 'Floaters'.She says that it is not because from watching pc/Tv. People who have short sight have this or will get it at some point. I talked about this once again to her some other day because i wondered if my eyes will get completely destroyed by this. She said that won't happen. Is it correct what she says ? The funny thing for me to hear was that, she said her therapist also has floaters in his left eye.She said i don't have to worry for this because as she also have that problem and she know that therapist for a longtime. I think may be some or few people will get some kind of eye problem who are married to computer screens.

Hi there.
I'm short-sighted. In my experience, if I'm sleep-deprived or having eye-strain due to being on the PC too much, then I'll have those problems. Make sure to have breaks, every now and again.

Floaters are very common and are not harmful.

Are you sure ? I heard like,it will turn into some kind of ball and completely the vision will be lost. When i heard it,i was like...no,it can't be.Anyway,if it won't create more problems further then i wonder why those few people lied to my Sis.May be they had other problems..who knows but they mentioned as they were computer engineers or something and they got that problem because of seeing computer continuously.Ya,whatever...

They are annoying, but common and not dangerous at all.

Indeed. I also see the occasional floater, and have never heard it being dangerous.

Seeing the replies,i understand there won't be much critical problem.Alright, even thought i was not afraid of it.Lol.I just wanted to know if it does more damage because i am not living any good life,so i won't care if i lost vision soon.I am the one who use to think it will be good if i never existed.Anyway..

I don't think floaters hurt you. I've had them since before I can remember. I remember when I was little kid I'd lay in bed, stare at the ceiling and watch them.
I'm also short-sighted and have had glasses since I was about 9, I think. I'm 21 now. |

I've just remembered a problem I have with monitors: I have to have the brightness very low, else I get horrendous eye-strain, headaches, nauseated, etc. I'm told it can be linked to dyslexia, so maybe that's it. When I first bought my current monitor, it was defaulted to 100% brightness, which is like hell for my eyes; I had to set it to about 20% or under. Only if I'm on a computer game, can I then stomach a slightly higher setting.

the headaches and such could be a neurological problem, have you ever gotten medical attention for that sensitivity?

I use my nook for a lot of internet work and I can reduce the brightness down when it bothers me. I can also increase the text size when reading which gives me a chance to read without my bifocals.

My computer screen has had a flutter for the past year and it's affecting my eyesight while away from the computer. I've noticed a flutter effect while away from the computer on a regular basis, and I wonder if I'm getting any permanent damage to my eyesight from watching my computer screen. I can't afford to get a new screen.

I have floaters and the eye doctor said they become more noticeable looking at a white screen like a computer monitor.
Looking at a screen has another effect. The eye doc told me that, when you look at a screen, you blink your eyes less and the eyes dry out. He said it's good to make it a point to blink my eyes often when looking at a screen. Tip for the day. |

Also, eye doctors recommend taking breaks from looking at the computer screen--maybe every fifteen minutes or so?
I even have the size of the page info on 125%, so I won't have to strain as much to read what is said. |
