I am so very angry and sick to my stomach as this is not the first time that have seen this happen ... I saw 9 people today, just this morning to go to the store (25 minutes RT), texting while driving and absolutely powerless at their distraction while driving. Just 10 minutes up the road, one of the texting people was in an accident: I could revive the one party before the ambulance got there but the other was pronounced dead at the scene. He is revived, but given that he was the one who ran a red light and was texting at the time will not help his case; he is at fault and his life as he knows it is over, over a text.

Besides the anger and sadness, it also disheartens me that they would care so little about not only their own safety but others' as well. I pray for this accident that the one party will be ok and pray for the family and friends of the other with their loss. I also pray for the future that nothing happens to other callous texters or others that suffer at their hands.

I beg, please just do not text and drive; it is NOT worth the mere SECONDS it takes by being distracted by the phone that can cause lifelong injuries or DEATH for yourself and someone else. I don't care what the text is, it is not worth it. Simple solution, please just pull over or heaven forbid, show some restraint and wait for safe place. It can help so much and is really that simple.

Thanks for the message. I never text and drive ever. I rarely find that there's even a call that's so important that it can't go to voice message.

My friend texts and drives and curses when she sees others doing it. LOL.

Anyway where I live I think both talking if not handsfree and texting while driving soon will be against the law.

And apparently hypocrites.

My dad used to text and drive, since he was on the road a lot, for work, and it did my head in, so I kept going on and on about it; needless to say, he doesn't do that, now. I don't even like taking my eyes off the road, ... I don't drive.

Fresia, I'm so sorry you had to experience this. I hope the innocent party in the accident will be OK. Personally I think people who are distracted by texting should be treated the same as someone driving under the influence.

I don't text, period. Don't even have a data plan for my phone. Yeah, yeah, I know that makes me a dinosaur but, I figure if someone wants to communicate with me they can call me. There are few calls that are so important they can't go to voice mail. If I absolutely have to answer I tell the person to hold on until I can pull over.

I'm so sorry you experienced that and I hope you are all right.

There's just no point in texting and driving or calling and driving. It's illegal here unless it's wireless and while many complain about it, I think it will save a lot of lives.

Take good care,

Jan

I just don't understand why people do it. My sisters used to. But I lectured them enough and the new campaign (the really heartbreaking commercials where they hold up the text message that was sent when the accident occurred) has made them stop. My sister used to think it was okay at red lights. Until I pointed out that the light could turn green while she isn't looking at it, which could be risky, too.

There is no need at all to text while driving. Nothing is that important. And while I may not always care much about my own safety... the safety of others is of the utmost importance.

It's so sad that you had to experience this, Fresia. But at least you were there to help. Big sympathetic hugs for you.

Having almost been killed TWICE by people who were texting/preoccupied with their phones while driving, and having averted disaster other countless times by being the individual who did pay attention, I wish that there would be tougher deterrents (fines, penalties) for doing this. And more enforcement, in general.

There simply is nothing else so important that it should distract you while you are driving. Period.

People forget that our mobility is a privilege, not a right. Driving a vehicle safely is a massive public responsibility.

There are fines and penalties in the UK, as far as I know.

It's illegal where I live thankfully as is using a hand held mobile phone while driving; of course people still do it sadly ... I don't understand it either and can understand your anger and sadness with this Fresia

I'm sorry you had to see all of that! That must've been so terrible.

I agree with you, though. It terrifies me especially when I see it happening at red lights. If the car beside you inches up, and you see it in your peripheral vision, then chances are you're going to react to that by putting your foot on the gas, even if the light is still red. If your text is that important, then pull into a parking lot.

I was amazed a few months ago when i saw some chick merging from a cloverleaf while texting. It was like she wanted to die. I honked my horn at her and made it seem like she almost caused an accident even though she didn't. It was fun for me.

I think we become complacent behind the wheel, it becomes an automatic thing we do especially when it isn't new anymore. We eat in the car, smoke in the car, argue in the car, day dream in the car, hurry in the car, etc. etc.....very few people just drive

Not only surprising that they still do it...BUT HOW?! Maybe it's the swype pad that leaves such things, seemingly impossible, for me. Or is it the touch screen?! And that's actually a good thing
