So I'm trying to get my room clean, I am moving out of my parents house soon and I need everything clean and I'm going to sell everything I don't need. Problem is, I have no clue where to start. Things are in piles, it's overwhelming to look at let alone try to organize. I get distracted by finding new stuff I had totally forgotten about so it takes forever and I have absolutely no clue where to put a lot of this stuff, I'm totally lost!

Anybody have any tips or suggestions?

When I want to do a proper tidy... I usually move everything out of one room into another room. Then I clean the empty room etc then start moving things back into the room one by one. Each item I think do I still want this? If I do, I clean it and chose where to put it in the tidy room. If I don't, I either throw it away or stack it somewhere ready to be sold/given away/etc. This system works great apart from I always get left with one room that is a total bomb site. At the moment my living room, kitchen, bathroom; they are all spotless and perfectly organised. My bedroom... WOW! I have to climb over and around stuff just to get to the bed haha! Not really sure what to do about that! I guess just item by item. I suppose actually we are in pretty much the same situation so it looks like I can't help after all

I had an idea. You could do it the way I do it with rooms, except split your room up into sections. Move everything from one section into another section (on the bed works good as like a temporary zone), and then organise it item by item. Do the room section by section I guess that might help.

It is hard, but be very ruthless on items you don't need to keep. If you have not used it in 6 months and are unlikely to use it in the next 6 months, get rid of it. When I moved recently to a new town. Lots of stuff that I thought I needed got thrown away / given away and I don't miss the stuff at all.

Thank you for your ideas! I might combine them, move everything onto one side of the room clean it then move just the stuff I absolutely need back and get rid of the rest. Those are excellent ideas thanks

Start first thing one morning. Pile just about everything you dont know what to do with onto your bed, clean everywhere else and put away other stuff where you know it goes (you are half way there at this point) Now get some boxes/bags open and lined up. Start to go through each item and put in appropriate box/bag. Use a marker to write what they are and where they are going.
