Dogs. Dogs love you unconditionally.

Cats allow you to love them, but with conditions.

Although bearded dragons rock as pets!

Why is it either or :P
I have a special bond with cats based on how persecuted they are, their resilience, their vulnerability (to dogs for one thing) and for some reasons I couldn't verbalize or communicate.
But... I have some pretty cool dog friends

I own 4 cats already, so I would say cats
I used to have a dog, but he passed away
My cats always come to me and with 2 of them I can actually talk and somewhat understand what they want!

I live with a cat, but he owns me.

Dogs are my preferred pet between the two, hands down. I will always have a dog within petting distance. Puppy kisses are the quickest pick me up. And there's nothing better than coming home from a hard day to be greeted by a wonderful dog.

Rodents (hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rats, and mice) deserve an honorable mention.

Dogs anyday.
I like how they have no concept of what's in your past and what other people think of you - they judge you on that moment and that's all that matters. And I think they're the best friend anybody could ask for Although, I'd admit, I'm a sucker for the barmy ones - mad as a bag of snakes, bitey ones, weird ones and then the ones who'll just sit and cuddle. Either way :")

I started out years ago as a cat lover, even though I liked dogs at the time, I admired cats for there independence. There natural instincts are amazing, so nimble, fast and smart, there quite amazing to watch on catnip. Now, I have a Yorkie and a miniature Chihuahua, Chancy and little Molly. They pretty much own my heart and I just can't get enough of them, they are awesome and it makes there day every time they get to see me, best friends I ever had.

While both can be pleasant to have, I personally prefer cats. Dogs are just...a lot of work '_ '

I find it quite the opposite lol. I am definitely more of a dog person. All cats I know are grouchy and anti-social lol.

Yeah, I can see why'd you say that XD I guess I like cats because you can leave them to their own devices for the most part but they're still love-able in a way. Dogs are usually very high-maintenance and need constant attention, which can be anxiety-provoking to me for some reason o _o;;. But both are very lovely in their own way!

Cats are amazing creatures, but I've never seen or known of a cat running to the door or gate at the jingle of car keys, excited about going on a ride.

When my dogs need to go outside in the middle of the night, they'll come & nudge me & literally hug my legs with appreciation on the way out to the back door.

And when they have an extra good dinner (leftover chicken soup or something) they show their gratefulness - it's almost like they cannot thank me enough.

There are so many ways my dogs show affection... and FEW ways I've seen cats show affection.

I am convinced that dogs feel empathy. A friend of mine was in a very depressed state and needed someone to talk to. He came over - we were sitting in back yard at the patio table when he broke down and sobbed. One of my dogs came & put his head in his lap. It was an amazing show of empathy.

Dogs have the greatest and rarest attribute in the world--loyalty.

Cats? Not so much.

Love all critters but I am leaning towards "cat".

Dog's "loyalty" may just be that they have co-evolved to read us and manipulate us.
A cat's love is earned.

My cat is really loving and affectionate. When my husband comes home from work, he runs downstairs and jumps into his arms. He sleeps on my desk while I work and follows me round the house.

I think he may be part dog.
Thanks for this!

I so love them both, and my other critters as well. It is hard being without them. They are all so different, and admire and adore them for various reasons; the things that make them easier or more difficult to care for just falls under unconditional acceptance.

Cats don't wake you up at 5 in the morning in -15 degree weather to go outside or piddle on the floor if you cannot be home from work at the exact time every day. Thanks to litterboxes, I have to go with cats. They crawl up with me the moment I lay down and snuggle with me, and purr, so they are just as affectionate as dogs would be.

Gotta go with George on this one, why do we have to chose? I love my dogs. I love my cats. Deciding which I love more would be liking asking a parent which of their kids do they love more.
Thanks for this!

I have asthma so I can't have either but i like both. I can't meet the demands of a dog so it's not good for poor self esteem I feel but there are cats that are especially interactive and affectionate, if I could i'd have a Sphynx or Devon Rex. Lovely creatures.

Why not have both a shy friendly basset hound/black lab mix, along with a white and grey spotted 5 month old kitten?

Both are easy to handle, you can give them all of your undivided attention to them if you can make life equal for both of them.

I said other even though I am a dog & cat lover....because I have to add horse, rats, guinea pigs & any other critter that I have enjoyed as a pet. Even though my horse isn't an indoor pet....I'm sure she would love to be if given the chance.

I'm definitely a cat person. I like how they're chill and not like, all over you when you come in the door. Plus, I've always thought they were irresistibly cute. :3
