We all know what a hero is in the fantasy world - someone who risks their life to fight evil and becomes famous for it. But how close can this get in the real world, I wonder? Has anyone done anything "heroic" that they can be proud of?

Certainly soldiers, lifeguards, police officers, firefighters, ambulance crews, ER's, 911-operators, doctors and nurses, the list goes on ~ these people are real life hero's every single day.

I had a coworker that along with her sister started and organized a local shelter for abused women and teens who had found themselves pregnant with no one to turn to for help. I always consider her and anyone for that matter who takes time out of their lives to help those less fortunate.

My youngest son was 4 when he was with a kid that was bullying a little girl by taking away her toy and calling her names. My son told him to give it back. The other kid said, "Make me."

The toy was back in her position within a few seconds.

Heroes aren't made by their position in life, but by how they treat others.

Wow, Webgoji, that was powerful what you said. I definitely agree that "heroes aren't made by their position in life, but by how they treat others". In fact, your story reminded me of my younger brother who was 5, who physically "stood up" for his friend who was being ridiculed in class by other students. Even though he didn't say anything, everyone in his class knew that standing up for somebody was doing the right thing, and the ridicule stopped It was cute, yet my brother's heart is so pure, and he always tries to do the right thing. He's my hero.

These stories of children doing the right thing are heartwarming and inspiring. I think alot of people can be hero's when the time is right for even what seems like a simple thing. Yes though those who put themselves in danger deliberately to help others notably the rescue services and fire service are heros every time they step out. I also give a huge hero thumbs up to those that work on behalf of animals.
