I do talk to myself. It started off being only while I was alone, if I was anxious or freaking out about something I'd talk myself down, but slowly I've started catching myself talking myself down in public. I've gotten a couple of weird looks.

My mom often tells me that it's okay to talk to myself. But when I start talking back, I might have a problem.

Bronzeowl, I've heard that too. I guess I'm in trouble since I answer myself!

I do all the time. Heck I hold whole conversations with myself. I had a therapist tell me once that talking to yourself was the only good way to guarantee intelligent conversation

Hmmm, what should I say?
Yes, of course
But wouldn't I say I talk to the cat more than myself?
Nope, I talk to myself all the time when the cat is not around.
Yes, I'm right, the answer is yes.

Yup so many times I've been asked "is someone in there with you?" It's most fun when I say "yes" and go along with it.

I always think that there's people watching me even though its not true. I have conversations with these "people" so they probably know more about me than anyone else. But I always feel that they know this even when I meet them in real life. I also (and "they") talk down to me.

Especially now, in the throes of depression, where I constantly mutter to myself about how much I screwed up my life...

I've talked to myself since I was a child. And not just one-sided mutterings, full on conversations. Sometimes I am the only person who can talk myself out of certain things, so I don't consider it a bad thing. When I need to mentally prepare myself for something, I often have a good heart to heart with myself beforehand so I know what I'm going to say and how I am going to deal with the situation.
