Are there any online general topic forums where people are actually friendly or at least polite? The Ebay discussion forums are notoriously unfriendly and many other forums aren't much better.

I only come to these forums so I am a poor reference. I am pretty comfortable here.

Most of the ones I go to are friendly, however I think it's more to do with how you react to 'unfriendly' threads.
If I see that a thread is going that way, I just don't read any further.

My experience here has been overwhelmingly positive. People post about lots and lots of things---and if the moderators feel it is in an inappropriate spot, it will be moved...but it is not summarily shut down (and if it is, then well, it probably should be!)

But it is always preferable to stay away from troublesome, contentious topics----esp. if you are prone to anxiety like me, and can suddenly find yourself very upset about a conversation that really has very little to do with you, in truth.

Safe topics are the same here as they would be, anywhere. Whatever you can talk about, say, at a polite gathering of people of mixed ages, would also be perfectly acceptable here, I would think.

How's that for a rule of thumb?

P.S.---Humour is always a pretty good bet, and is so needed----

I've been here almost a year and have found it to be very supportive and helpful. MuseumGhost has a lot of good info. We even have games to play.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
