I am in this class at school for my graphic design major and it is called Graphic Materials and Processes. For this class, we have to work with paper to create things such as cut-outs and pop up books. Making 3D things out of paper. Well I got a C on one of my projects because it was not done very well because I have poor craftsmanship / hand skills. I have always struggled with drawing and 3D art that I do with my hands. Especially using the x-acto knife and scissors. It is hard to cut straight even if I have my ruler, which tends to slip or my hand slips or its not straight. I use the T-square and ruler and it always comes out wobbly. I had to make my pop up book today and finished it but really struggled to make the pages aligned. I ended up cutting off the edges way more than I should have, cutting off some of the design on the inside, simply because I couldn't get it aligned right. I ended up putting a border around one of the edges to make it straight. In grade school the teacher would always make me re-write my name on assignment sheets cause it was written poorly. On one of my report cards, it said I had poor hand skills with using scissors. In middle school I had to re-write a whole essay because I had bad handwriting (it was an in-class essay that we couldn't use a computer for). What is wrong with me? Why can't I make things straight and look nice? I work very hard on it, doing it over and over. I had to do my cut-out three times and I still got a C on it. I'm worried about getting a bad grade in the class. My pop-up book is so messy and I can't fix it. I don't want to do the project all over again since I worked two weeks on it and it's due in two days. My teacher has called me lazy, and "Wow you seem to be making a lot of mistakes in this class!" What do I do?

Seems to me i remember you saying in some post that you have been dx'ed on the aspergers spectrum. I'm thinking that might tie into that. Think my ex struggled all his life with un dx'ed aspergers & he couldnt handle a paint brush for painting a color wheel in an interior design class we took...he blamed it on never being taught how to paint...well i hadn't either but had no problem.....i do think it can show up through things like that.

Don't be so hard on yourself we all have limitations in one thing or another

Would it help to purchase - or borrow - a paper cutter? (The type with a flat surface, a ruler, and a sliding blade are not necessarily expensive).

I have a paper cutter but the project I was doing is too big for it. But thanks for posting.
