I didn't get it until someone told me that eating animal fats wasn't very good for you.

I find it very tasty when there's a big chunk of fat on chicken (the skin), steak and ham. It just has that rich salty flavor and it's chewy.

I love it, I don't get why other people don't.

*guts lurch* Ergh.. xD I hate the texture, and despise how unhealthy it is. The taste isn't too bad, at least sometimes. I avoid fat when I can, ... some fats are good for you (such as the oil found on fish like Salmon, that supply you with Omega 3) but I'd sooner stay away from saturated fats typically found on such meat. Honestly, nowadays, I find myself attracted to foods that are healthy; this is kinda how things should work in nature, I think, and probably how things did work before we became so lazy and relied on other people to hunt for us. Meat shouldn't ordinarily be avoided, though, with an obvious source of protein and possibly other sources of nutrients, it's definitely good for you. Obviously there are many alternatives, which is great for vegetarians, such as protein drinks/pills, as well as eggs, and other such protein-rich foods. Apparently red meat is best left alone, or at least, not consumed often, due to its high fat-content. Sorry if that was a bit overkill - I just felt like spewing out some info.

Meat fat is about the only fat I like. That and cream. Not that I get it very often. The person shopping for me (me) usually gets me boring veggie stuff...

Well, some people don't like it because it is fattening---so they cut out all of it they can see.

I don't like the taste of it by itself, but it can make food taste better. For example, I like steaks that have more marbled fat than those with little fat.

And traditional Southern U.S. cooking even adds fatback meat to make food such as green beans taste better!

I don't like eating chewy fat on meats, but I do like fried chicken skin. I like things made with fat, like Cool Whip and such, but I know that I'm not doing good for my body when I eat it, so I try not to overdo it.

I only eat lean meat so I rarely eat fat in meat, but I love fat in dairy like ice cream.

I like fat when it's BBQ'ed & crispy.....& bacon is wonderful when it's fried crispy also. Chicken skin is the most flavorful part of the chicken....but again i like it crispy...& I also pull off the fat.

I have a problem eating much....so eating anything is an accomplishment

Ew, I don't eat it. Just the texture makes me want to vomit. I cut it all off.

If I put a piece of meat fat in my mouth I would spit it out and feel nauseated... not necessarily in that order but probably simultaneously :P
So that's why I don't like it I have to admit if it was very thin and fried crispy it might not be bad. I like bacon I'm sorry to say. I'd love to go vegan other than eating chicken. Eating chicken doesn't bother me ethically except for the way they are treated before they become food. I'm not hardcore anti-meat. I understand nature and the food chain. We're all in that.

Well, aside from the fact that it's unhealthy I don't like the taste or texture. If I'm eating chicken and accidently get a glob of fat in my mouth it gags me.

That said I do like a small amount of crisp fat on a steak. It's got to be crisp though. If it's squishy I won't eat it.

I LIKE BACON.
I like bacon fat on the bacon or hanging out by itself on the plate when you've eaten all the bacon and you are all sad because you think your plate is empty.
I will eat that little piece of bacon fat and feel a bit happier for it.

I like bacon fat mixed in with veggies and bacon and more bacon and sausage and if I can get some ham in there that's good too because there is nothing like eating an animal three different ways haha.
[for more fun, make a chicken omelet]

But yeah. Bacon fat? yes please.
And prime rib fat?
YES YES and YES.

I LOVE MEAT.
Thanks for this!

Honestly it makes me sick to look at. I have always been wary of meat. I hardly eat any and if I do it has to be well well down with no fat or I start gagging. It's a personal choice, I don't find it tasty. Since I was a child are and cooked meat was my enemy, i still can't touch raw meat.

Lol. xD Josie, you just wanna be different, don't you! Here I am, honest to God eating a giant stick of raw celery, jotting it down on my diet log, and you're going on about bacon and its fat! Haha. Priceless. For everything else there's Mastercard.

I can't eat it. If it somehow gets into my mouth, I can't even continue eating the meal. I conclude this is a good way to diet!

haha. To be honest, I REALLY love vegetables and healthy stuff like whoa. I do really like meat though and need a lot of protein. I try to have two veggies for lunch and dinner and then rice or beans and then a meat but when I cook any kind of meat/poultry/pork [with the exception of bacon omg omnomnom] I tend to trim the fat, and reserve the "Don'tCares" for the rare times I go crazy with the bacon and such. So, while I do love me some bacon fat, I don't have it very often. All things in moderation right?

Er... even moderation? I never figured that one out.

I think some of it is culturally typical foodstuffs too.
I like blood sausage but it's not typical "American fare", though more people in various parts of the world will tend to enjoy it.

I would be willing to be you would get more Americans stating that they don't prefer meat fat than some
individuals who identify with other cultures. Not across the board, obviously. But some flavors are more preferred generally in certain places than others.

Put a little peanut butter on the celery. [a little bit!]
Then you get some protein too. Yeah, it's fat but it's not a lot if you don't eat a lot and you need some fat in your diet... though I will conceded it does not need to be bacon fat.

Thanks for this!

As for fats, I'll take polyunsaturated (and apparently monounsaturated fats are "good") over that bacon fat any day. :P

You, Josie, are growing on me.

What I don't get is how people can eat fatty stuff like mayo, chips, deep fried foods, fatty chocolate or cakes... but not fatty meats. I guess natural fat is "gross" and unnatural fat make people drool.

I don't get putting butter on popcorn and fatty icecream... urgh. Nooo....

I strangely like the fat on chicken and ham... However, not on beef. I actually like the texture and flavor... However, I don't buy meat anymore, so it's not applicable. I also used to avoid fat and often removed it.

You guys who have mentioned bacon (yum! if it's cooked right...crispy and not burnt!) reminded me of this bratty little kid on either Wife Swap or Trading Spouses years ago. And I do mean brat! He was raised to eat horribly (lots of soda, pie for breakfast, no vegetables, etc.), and at one point, he was rebelling against the "new mom" (the shows had two wives with very opposite or different lives trade places) and standing at the fridge, he said, "Bacon is good for me!" I'd sure like to see an update on that family!
