What games did you play years ago and do you still play them now? I can still play Sonic the hedgehog for hours lol and the revenge of Shinobi is pure ninja awesomeness lol.
Thanks for this!

I always will love the original Sonic games on the Genesis. SMW, Metroid, RiverCity Rampage, Rampage, BattleToads, and I can play the original Super Smash Bros. indefinitely.

I revisit a lot of my old SNES and PS1 favorites from childhood every few years. I couldn't play them regularly, but I have a different take and a new appreciation after being away for awhile.

Most anything Mario or Donkey Kong. Or old baseball games.

Sounds weird, but Harvest Moon. It's a farming simulator that was surprisingly enjoyable and relaxing.

I don't think it's old enough to be considered retro yet, but every couple of years I do another run through Baldur's Gate 2. When it first came out I was a teenager, but it still manages to impress all these years later.

I grew up in Silicon Valley (San Jose, CA) and was able to try some of the earliest games. I remember playing "Pong" with my brother in 1972 and I think it might have been made by Atari. It was basically a screen with a center line, a ping pong ball, and two paddles you could slide top to bottom on the screen to bounce the ping pong ball back at your opponent. Talk about primitive--but it was cutting edge back then, lol, and lots of fun. I would love to have one of those "Pong" games today. Does anyone remember that one?

I'm 37 and my grandparents got me an Atari 2600 to have at their house for when we'd visit. I thought Pong was a blast. Then they got me Berzerk and that was my fave until Q*Bert and Pitfall came along. Also loved Warlords, Asteroids, Haunted House, Super Breakout, Dig Dug and Frogger Ah memories

Don't get me wrong I loved my Nintendo and Sega but my first love was that Atari 2600

a few games that evoke gaming nostalgia

Currently replaying the Soul Reaver series that stared on PS1
Every December I break out and play through Shenmue (that is the time setting of the game itself)
At least once a year I will fire up the old Sega CDX for some Sonic, Wirehead, Sewershark, Golden Axe, Altered Beast etc....
I love the original PS1 versions of Spyro the Dragon, I still have all three of those.

I don't know why, but I think it's really funny that you described what Pong was to us. I hate to say this but...if we don't know that, we're lost as a society.

I'm not quite old enough to remember when some games came out, but I have one to add. "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" is one of my favorite games. And it turns out that Harlan Ellison is a great author, too!

For people who get nostalgic about video game music, there's ocremix.org that collects some of the finer remixes and compositions. I'd forgotten about the site for years until a week ago.

I was in collage when pong came out, no extra money for games. We played mrs PAC man, space invaders and shoot the duck in the bars.

That last one, I'm not sure if it counts, you'd get a button from the barkeep and across the room was a large screen with a rifle pointing at the sky, then push the button at the right time to get the ducks.
