Then I "visited" the city where I grew up. Downloaded "Google Earth" Downloaded "Google Earth" Downloaded "Google Earth"

Is it possible for a place to change so much in 40 yrs that you don't EVEN begin to recognize it??

The haunted house where I grew up isn't there anymore. In it's place, a large commercial building.

The last house I lived in before I got married isn't there, either. The address is no longer on the corner!! It's 3/4 of the way down the block!! Downloaded "Google Earth" Huh??

A huge, beautiful park with several levels, a swimming pool, tennis courts, exotic plants... GONE!!!

My teen age hang out... GONE... to make way for a freeway system! Downloaded "Google Earth" Downloaded "Google Earth"

Alligator Park, where ALL the busses, (and they have a very HUGE bus service) turned around downtown... You could catch any bus going anywhere in the city and vicinities there... GONE!!

The ONLY thing that I recognized was the old high school! Thank goodness for small favors!

Before I allow myself to go into deep mourning... what does anyone know about Google Earth?? How up to date is it? How REAL is it????

Honey, 40 years is an eternity. I've been gone from the town I grew up in 23 years, and I can't even find my way around anymore! My house is still there, and my schools are still there, but nothing else I remember is. There was a pasture across the street from my high school -- it's now an office park. It's called "progress." Sorry. Downloaded "Google Earth"

the best way to check how up to date it is is to google earth your current address and look at the cars parked outside your house or nearby houses and see if they are the same, for example if you bought a newer vehicle and the picture onscreen shows the old vehicle it will give you a rough idea of how old the picture is.

at my london address it is approx 6 months out of date based on the neighbour having his motorbike in his garden under a sheet, the bike was stolen 6 months ago but the pic still shows it there.

Would you please tell me how an address moves from being on the corner of a major intersection to 3/4 of the way down the block???

Oh... and BTW, what happens to the spirits that have haunted a house once it's torn down? I know for a fact that it was haunted. Damn spirits scared the crap out of me more than once and the people that later rented my bedroom while I was away at boarding school, moved out after a few days there! My aunt was a medium and she saw a son and father beating the crap out of each other with the subsequent death of one of them. I forget now which one it was.

I KNEW things would be different, that's probably why I never went back. But GEEEEEZZZ!!

For the last little while I've had only half a notion of "going home" for a visit. Forget it! "Home" isn't there anymore!! Downloaded "Google Earth" No houses, no family, no friends, nothing familiar! Absolutely NOTHING! Downloaded "Google Earth"

Mellors, I'll google my home now and see if I can see anything... thanks. Downloaded "Google Earth"

Sure. It's not that uncommon for addresses to be renumbered when there's a new street built, or an addition to an existing street. Happens more than you think.

Just looked up my present address and it has my mobile next door to the one I moved from. Nu Uuuhu! I'm at the OTHER corner! So... Google Earth's cross hairs AIN'T right! Downloaded "Google Earth"

Unfortunately, I can't tell how old the "pic" is because I can't remember how long it's been since the RV storage lot has been that empty! LOL

The house in El Paso that looks got moved down the street ISN'T the right house! In fact, the one that is on the corner seems to still have the porch the same. Half under a roof and half roof-less. Just looks like the house has been enlarged, which would stand to reason since it only had 2 bedrooms and a HUGE yard.

What's happened to the ghosts that haunted my other house??? Maybe they've found their way towards the light. I sure hope so! I'm not kidding, either!

I downloaded it and can't get up close to houses or anything because it gets blurry. Is there something wrong with it or is that the way it is supposed to be?

Hon, I don't know exactly. One of my kids houses showed up pretty blurry, but everything else shows up pretty clear. Maybe it's just when and how the pic was taken?? It certainly isn't up to date!

One thing that bugs me is that you can turn the pic sideways but then everything stops being 3D! You can't see the sides of the buildings! Downloaded "Google Earth"

I wanted to see if the commercial building where the haunted house used to be had a name on it. Downloaded "Google Earth" Couldn't see the sides! ARGH! It's driving me nuts that I don't know what happened to the spirits that "lived" in that house. Maybe I should stop thinking about them or they might come live with ME! Downloaded "Google Earth" Noooo! They gave me enough misery when I lived there! Downloaded "Google Earth"
