11 Super Health Benefits in Just One Celery Stalk | Care2 Healthy Living

Just discovering it, now. OK, I knew celery was good for you, but I didn't know just how good for you it is! I'll be eating a stalk of celery every day, and I'll absolutely despise it, but if it's good for me, it's tough luck! Great if you suffer with constipation, like I sometimes do. Great food to go alongside a nice, healthy diet.

Just been to the shops, grabbed some more healthy munch, but thought I'd try out the celery. When I got home, I had a stalk, ... it was disgusting (totally not how I remember it!) so I looked it up, out of curiosity (if I'm gonna eat something gross, it better be worth it, y'know?) and found that link. xD

You could try pairing it with a sweet melon, maybe? Or raisins?
Thanks for this!

I eat raw celery all the time and it's sooo good! I dip it in ranch or peanut butter or just a little salt. I'm a vegetable feen though. Especially raw veggies !

None of which we have, and are, for me, easily accessible, unfortunately. Well, I can get raisins, but they're alongside a bag of mixed nuts and stuff. (the last time I got them, I ate 1000kcal in one day!--of the nuts and raisins, I mean--So, I best avoid them haha)

I love veggies, as well. More so, since the start of my mission to lose body-fat, and get back my old physique, 2 months ago. xD Veggies are amazing. I particularly love cucumber; something like every day I have a big chunk of the stuff. Yum. Quite like raw, baby tomatoes, as well.

Be careful with celery. It's delish and I love it but it's gassy and a lot of pesticides are used to grow it. Best if you buy organic celery. If you have difficulty digesting it, use a potato peeler to remove the tough outer strings.
Thanks for this!

Celery is a diuretic food source so it should shoot through me. Tends to help with digestion, for that reason, because it's filled with liquid. I've not had an issue with gas, yet but I'll keep that in mind, as I struggle with gas. (as in, if I have too much in me, my body struggles getting rid of it, properly) I'll see if I can get some organic stuff, but I think this stuff is OK, to be honest... or not, EEW. Just saw this thread:

http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/show....php?t=1453121

Definitely not getting that stuff, anymore, ... will go for organic. I'll check it before eating it, and clean it thoroughly. I didn't see the point in cleaning this particular one, as I figured THEY would clean their own damn food before selling it to us consumers. xD Actually, I might as well boil it all... should kill anything still left on it, right?

A while back I had read an article on the food to avoid eating due to the heavy concentration of pesticides. The ones I remember mentioned were:
Apples
Celery
Strawberries
Potatoes

There were more listed but I don't remember them all. Their recommendation was to buy organic for those that were listed. I guess an apple a day won't keep the doctor away anymore unless you eat organic ones.
Thanks for this!

I love celery, preferably chopped in a salad, or a stalk filled with peanut butter. unguy, thanks for that bit of advice. I tend not to think too much about pesticides, because I wash anything I prepare, but there's always a risk.

Celery doesn't have to taste harsh. Pick green and tender-looking heads, rather than big pale tough looking ones. The latter have sat in water or been over-fed when in the ground. A good celery stick tastes excellent, and then there are those even I a celery-lover wouldn't eat.

This one looks good:

These don't:

The leaves are good to eat, too. Great in salad, soup, and tuna sandwiches.
Thanks for this!

I used to hate celery and one way my mom tried to get me to eat it was by making 'ants on a log' which was a celery stick filled with peanut butter or cream cheese with raisins on it. Cute idea, but it didn't work. Now I like it. Go figure

Not to rain on anyone's celery parade.... ummm maybe this might be one reason to buy organic celery

Celery - 11 Things It's Best to Buy Organic - Health.com

Celery
When researchers at the EWG analyzed 89,000 produce-pesticide tests to determine the most contaminated fruits and vegetables, celery topped the chart. "In terms of the sheer number of chemicals, it was the worst," says Sonya Lunder, senior analyst at the EWG. Celery stalks are very porous, so they retain the pesticides they’re sprayed with—up to 13 of them, according to the EWG analysis. Lunder also advises buying organic bell peppers, spinach and potatoes because they scored high for pesticides, as well.
